    Transitions - Richie Hawtin's latest DE9

    Taken From:

The electronic music world is incredibly difficult to stay ahead of. What is branded cool one week, might be slated as dirty the next. Endless techniques are used by artists and their management to try to keep themselves beyond mainstream musical comprehension, and therefore slipping from the razor?s edge where legends can be crafted.

Richie Hawtin is far beyond the forefront of electronic music. His uncrackable image matches his flawless sound and genre pioneering styles. After 4 years, he is back with his latest transformation, evolving alongside technology to ensure he doesn't get lost in a world of dated sounds, average compilations and half-assed singles.

His studio in Berlin has been in full production for the third release in the DE9 series. Following on from Decks, EFX & 909 in 1999 and then Closer to the Edit in 2001 DE9: Transitions is the long awaited latest mix from Hawtin. Utilising the latest recording technologies and automation techniques, he is said to explore not only the traditional musical transition over time and amplitude (X and Y) but the depth (Z) in terms of space and perception - bringing you much closer to the edit so to speak.

Released in September of 2005 on CD & DVD, DE9: Transitions will be recorded within a fully immersive 5.1 Surround Sound environment, complete with high resolution audio versions and accompanying visuals.

Richie Hawtin will preview DE9: Transitions in 5.1 surround sound for the first time at Sonar, Barcelona (June 16 -18, 2005).

Hopefully this will be better then his closer to edit mix. I am glad to see richie is getting back to his plastikman sound again though. But some of the newer sets I have heard have kinda sucked. Maybe it is just me.

His PS1 party in Queens a few years ago was ridiculous. That's the first time I heard him live and he did not dissapoint. I'll have to check this out.

This is probably the most wonderfulish album I?ve ever heard.

The CD-mix is lovely, but I recommend strongly to listen to the
93 Minutes 5.1-Dolby-Surround-mix (DVD) on a proper system.

                  This is purely A-W-E-S-O-M-E.

The videos after the surround-mix are quality, too.

                        Re: Transitions - Richie Hawtin's latest DE9

I was about to start a thread on this. I've been following Hawtin for a while, more because of his creativity than for his music, though I really dig Plastikman. Anyway, I've never heard electronic music in 5.1 and that was the main reason to get this album. Specially now that I have a pretty descent sound system.

Anyway, I got my copy a few days ago. Put the DVD and laid back to enjoy it. I have to tell the thing is really interesting and innovative. Hawtin moves the sound all over the place for 96 mins creating a quite unique experience. The sound is very precise, minimal techno full of subtle surprises. His music lacks the groove that I like the most in electronic music, but he manages to create some really cool textures.

Haven’t had time to listen to the CD (a shorter version of the DVD mix), but I’m sure is very good too.

Go for it, specially if you can listen to it in a surround system.

definitely a good cd. I listened to it a few times in the car before throwing it out.

                              The live footage is class.

Travelled 80 miles to "borrow" my dads new 5.1 installation for a few hours, well worth it! Sounds so much better when you have all the weird noises coming out of the different speakers.

Hawtin does it again... but where to next??!
