Also, when GU:019 LA came out, some 14 years ago, many reviewers wrote that Digweed and progressive had gone too far, too dark, impossible to dance to (they did have some point ). It sounds ridiculous now but CD1 is still pretty banging.

I just listened to this. I didn't find it dark, but it's a classic Digweed. The track before the last one is a f'n jiji

Of course times have changed. The tribal sounds and tracks like Paranoize and Penetration are an acquired taste now.
But we have people here who attended the Twilo nights and they can tell you how dark his sets were back then. We just have little evidence of it, since only two hours of music has been released by JD so far.

i wish he would release those classic twilo dark sets. i didnt listen to his gu 19 yet to see what darkness means. i will have to listen to it

Honestly these Dark/Twilo sets are some of my favorite music of all time. I revisit these sets quite a bit. Love this stuff. That 1999-2001 era was such an amazing time.

Digweed's 4-part Fabric set from Kiss100 (broadcasted in December 2000 and January 2001) was pretty damn dark.. especially parts 1 and 2.

Global Underground 019 from LA is still awesome today in my opinion, and in terms of mixing and arrangement, GU 014 from Hong Kong is unprecedented. When I saw him at the Area 2 Festival (don't remember what year it was...maybe 2002 or 2003?), he played some incredible and banging darkness. Only track I remember was King Unique-Sugarhigh....which was a white label still, and the night before Danny Howells had played it. Magic.

Saw him at Cavo Paradiso back in 2004 in Mykonos...that too was some splendid darkness.
