I won't be back until next Tuesday, so if Get Carter is the correct answer, I would appreciate of someone else posts a new cap for me

That^, as simple as it may sound, is the postulate of Quantum Physics.

really interesting, but can people actually apply quanum physics nowadays? as far as i know today all this is at the early experimental stages at best

Scanning tunneling microscopy uses qm electron tunelling to image individual atoms every day in labs all over the world.

This is not theory, they perform these experiments in undergrad physics classes to show this behavior. And the double-slit experiment highlights just the wave-particle duality of nature. There are other quantum mechanics principles which are witnessed and are being experimented on such as quantum entanglement are being used as a potential future for communications protocols.

Quantum physics as a whole has yielded a whole bunch of great inventions for humanity, the ones that immediately jump to mind are MRIs and FMRIs and are giving unprecedented views into the human body for medicinal purposes.

Read up even on Global Consciousness project, very interesting with what they are learning from it.

Of course and all things Sci-Fi / Star Trek will eventually become reality as more studies and discoveries are made in this field.

                        From Wikipedia

Applications of quantum mechanics include the laser, the transistor, the electron microscope, and magnetic resonance imaging. A special class of quantum mechanical applications is related to macroscopic quantum phenomena such as superfluid helium and superconductors. The study of semiconductors led to the invention of the diode and the transistor, which are indispensable for modern electronics.

In even the simple light switch, quantum tunnelling is absolutely vital, as otherwise the electrons in the electric current could not penetrate the potential barrier made up of a layer of oxide. Flash memory chips found in USB drives also use quantum tunnelling, to erase their memory cells

All the crazy quantum phenomena have been recreated in a laboratory, even the ones that are REALLY crazy, like the Quantum Entanglement.

A fellow spaghetti is the lead researcher!

                              This is beautiful:

A pulse of laser light is fired at a tiny metallic nanowire. The laser adds energy to the charged particles in the nanowire, causing them to vibrate. Light travels along this tiny wire in two possible directions, like cars on a highway. When waves traveling in opposite directions meet each other they form a new wave that looks like it is standing in place. Here, this standing wave becomes the source of light for the experiment, radiating around the nanowire
