Re: fundacion is boring.
I saw the title of this thread and just started laughing. I'm sorry, BUT HAVE YOU HEARD FUNDACION? I get so tired of all these judgements from so called "music lovers".
I absolutely love the CD. I think Sasha has made an incredible turn around in the last few years and I can't be happier for him and for my blessed ears that get to listen to his wizardry. And by the way, going forward without the decks in such a public manner takes balls and I'm glad someone did it with such bravery.

I love Sasha, always been my favorite live and with studio compilations. But this, ....this is not good. - We love ya Sasha, but where did the shitty vocals and lack of energy come from? I'm sure his next album will be great, he's one of the best we've got and no one should turn their back on him because of this, even though the consensus here leans toward the negative."These are the kind of people who, when they read about the evils of drinking, they give up reading." - Herb CohenComment

You and your people are a pain in my ass.... opinion's aside, shitty vocals is just plain retarded dumbfuck babble.... i'm afraid it's official... you are an asshole, the asshole that broke this faggot's back and unfortunately you have to hear about it in this public forum....Originally posted by michaelbirneyI love Sasha, always been my favorite live and with studio compilations. Re: fundacion is boring.
You are right about the consensus, I concede that. I should have been more specific and said it was a consensus among many of my friends in the scene, including many who are members here. But what are you talking about?---so let me get this straight, you have no discretion whatsoever when it comes to vocals? There are good vocals and bad vocals, just as there are good songs and bad songs. Simple enough. ....So if Sasha spun a new Kathy Lee Gifford remix, there's NO WAY it could be a shitty vocal and you're saying you would rock out to it?!?!?! I would leave if I heard someone playing something that myself and others felt was in bad taste. Instead of articulating yourself and presently a logical argument, you call me a retarded dumbfuck....WOW ...are you educated? Obviously not.Originally posted by miketpotoYou and your people are a pain in my ass.... opinion's aside, shitty vocals is just plain retarded dumbfuck babble.... i'm afraid it's official... you are an asshole, the asshole that broke this faggot's back and unfortunately you have to hear about it in this public forum....Originally posted by michaelbirneyI love Sasha, always been my favorite live and with studio compilations. kathy lee this album aint, I am curious as to what bad vocals you are referring to? low energy i can see perhaps, but i was at fundacion all the time, so if I wanted to dance i did it there.... i preferr a little tone-down at home sometimes, but thats personal preference... And I was a music major in "college", so I know all about vocals and keys and all that good stuff.... is it genre you have a beef with? I want to know, what you're thinking, won't you tell me what is on your mind? bad taste?? like stripes and prints together? or like pleated khakis?Comment

what "shitty vocals" are you referring to Michael? surely not the Beanfield track? a quality vocal if ever i heard one.....Comment

Re: fundacion is boring.
With the vocals, I'm only referring to the Fundacion cd. My buddies who live in NY are even pickier than I am about vocals and they loved his live sets at Crobar. Personally, I really enjoy the 'Holden & Thompson-Come to Me' track(s) on his cd, but I haven't listened to the album enough yet to specifically pick out the vocal tracks I didn't like. I only remember fast-forwarding through a couple of tracks the moment I heard the vocals drop that I disagreed with. --I also definitely prefer a little tone-down at home as well, as Involver might have been closer to this; closer to a 'less' dance based artist album. However, I thought the Fundacion album would have had much more energy, been more relentless, with more throbbing basslines etc; more remnisent of his recent sets at Crobar throughout the Fundacion residency. -----Oddly enough, I felt his sound was much more aggressive at his Involver Release Party at Crobar last year (which I flew in to see)--a set where I was expecting something much closer to the style of Involver; --although he did start the show with 'The Youngsters - Smile', ultimately I felt the set was more aggressive, more 'Sasha' (do u agree or not, as I will assume u caught this show as well?) -------Also, I most certainly do not have a problem with his genre as he has been my hands down #1 favorite dj for years now, although I felt he strayed a bit with this album, playing tracks that didn't fit into 'my perceived style' -- of his unique sound that he has developed throughout the years, which carried on from his Global Underground compilations, to his live sets, and even to Involver which was definitely a change of pace which I loved, but still kept that Sasha sound. --It's just that since I started spinning 5 years ago, and producing in the last year, I have become one picky bastard, I've gotta be honest with you. I just think that there is an overabundance of progressive tracks today with discoesqe or just simply mediocre vocals that I don't relate with Sasha's sound, nor do I enjoy (Deep Dish-esque vocals). In my sets, I try not to overuse vocals so when they are used, I use the best ones I can find and I feel they have a much greater impact when dropped (assuming a proper build up to the track)----not that I'm some star dj, but I have confidence in my abilities, and thats just the way I have come to see it. ----Sorry to be so long winded, but I'm not trying to create any enemies here, I just love to discuss this music, (as it truly is my life), with other like minded people like yourself, who are as passonate about the music as I am, even with dissenting opinions. I'd love to know what you think about all this, so drop me a line if you get a chance. --Oh, and on a side note, I love the quote about the pleated khaki's--well put (lol). Re: fundacion is boring.
Sorry, ---I guess its just me. I'm not saying its a bad track,---I love the track now that I am giving it another listen. I guess its just a combination of 1.) if I were a dj, that particular vocal wouldn't fit anywhere into what I am doing right now within my own style (the song would, just not the overlaying vocal), so that's just my bias--I'm a picky bastard, sorry!! Naturally, I'm my own favorite DJ in the world, so my presuppositions and preferences are what they are. --but more importantly-- 2. Its not that its a bad track, its just that if you played that track out of context, I would never guess in a million years that Sasha would be the one dropping it, especially on a "GU" cd---in my opinion, it seemed out of character for him. To me, it doesn't sound like a Sasha track, where on Involver, he did something different, had great vocals, and still managed to keep the 'Sasha' sound. I guess that's all. Please don't get me wrong though, Sasha has been, and for the foreseeable future is my pick for best DJ in the world hands down. That is until I come around!!!!Originally posted by chemicalbeaviswhat "shitty vocals" are you referring to Michael? surely not the Beanfield track? a quality vocal if ever i heard one.....
