            Re: Good times for music

I think, Since the late 90s, we are living a great period and
consecutive years of great music, productions and some great talents,
There is so much music out there, of course there is a lot of shit,
but the quality in these days is great after many years of minimal-tech-house
or whatever you call it. Im glad to hear many many good tracks every single week.
I hope the quality keep growing.

not one mention of Eelke Kleijn in this thread yet.....

the guy has been one of the most consistent DJs/producers in the past few years

^^He was playing at a club I was at last Friday night. It was in a rooftop smoking roof. The sound was so bad I couldn't stay. He was playing good music , but you couldn't hear him properly. It was like having a radio in a distant corner. And I have wanted hear him for years.

                  Re: Good times for music

I have purposely tried to listen to as much 'new' music as I can via Soundcloud and Spotify, and you know what, I find it all very mundane and boring at the moment. I have listened to the current in vogue DJs such as Dixon, Guy J, Maceo Plex and I just cannot see the hype around these guys?

Even the old favourites such as Dave Seaman, Hernan and Nick Warren are very hit and miss for me these days. The one DJ who I have found an interest in is Agoria, but even he can play some stuff that I switch off from.

I'm not sure if it's because 'I'm getting older' as I am still listening to the same volume of music as I did 15 years ago.

On the Bedrock messageboard they are talking about the recent Bedrock night in London and all the classic tracks that were played. What are the classics of today, or the last 4 years? I don think I could name 5 tracks that stand up against those classics from the 1998-2005 era

Can anyone recommend a DJ who plays decent music with vocals - and I dont mean the cheesy Hed Kandi music, I mean the kind of decent vocal music that must still exist out there?

Which is quite funny as he was beating off about DJ's playing tracks that everyone knew in some interview the same week.

I think that venue he played at kind of required that nostalgic vibe.. in fact more credit to him for doing that. He played a relentless 5 hour set the week before here in SF and I didn't recognize a single track.

Also, its one thing to play ~15 old "hits" in a 5 hour set and another to play 20 in a 90 min set, which is what he was referring to I think.

                        That's my take anyway.

I would have to partially agree... there is good new music out there, but very few memorable tracks that have the potential of becoming "classics"

But the DJ's he was slagging don't have a repertoire that dates back 20 years. It would be like asking Digweed in 92 to play some classics.

Was listening to an interview by the founder of Bonnaroo and Big Ears festival on the radio yesterday, the latter being a mostly experimental music type festival and he was saying basically the same thing as this thread title. People are far more open to different music now.

maybe try Henry Saiz, he's on fire lately, his sets aren't vocal heavy exactly but he throws a few decent vocal tracks here and there, basically it's just very beautiful smooth music for almost any kind of mood

https://soundcloud.com/henry-saiz/the-labyrinth-22-live-prince The full set from Henry !!! :D Sometimes it pays to wait for the best ;)
