I think it is, just like with everything else, you expand your knowledge thus expand your tastes.

But that does not make your tastes a benchmark. Listening to a few Sasha sets doesn't make you an authority on music, or give you an excuse to look down on others. Most people want music that they feel an emotional attachment to. They are not going to get that listening to some ropey underground techno. You're not expanding anything, you are closing it down.Comment
