As the co-founder of Easy Star All-Stars, Producer/songwriter/musician Michael Goldwasser is the mastermind behind a unique musical genre - taking classic albums and re-imagining them as reggae and dub. His production Dub Side of the Moon has sold over 250,000 copies worldwide (all independently), was acclaimed by Mojo Magazine as being the #2 cover album of all time, and was a seminal album in the birth of the current U.S. dub reggae scene. He has been the producer and/or executive producer on several albums that have hit #1 on the Billboard Reggae Chart. Michael's latest project is a collection of his r&b/soul/funk/disco originals called Goldswagger which hearkens back to the sounds of the late 70's/early 80's and includes contributions from guests such as John "JR" Robinson (Chaka Khan/Rufus, Michael Jackson's Off the Wall) on drums and Bill Holloman (Chic) on horns.
Easy Star All-Stars is a reggae collective with a rotating roster of musicians and singers founded by the co-founders (Michael Goldwasser, Eric Smith, Lem Oppenheimer & Remy Gerstein) of New York City-based Easy Star Records in 1997.The first original album by the band, released in 2003, was an interpretation of Pink Floyd's classic The Dark Side of the Moon entitled Dub Side of the Moon; the second was 2006's Radiodread, a song-by-song cover of Radiohead's OK Computer. In April 2009, they released a cover of The Beatles' Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band entitled Easy Star's Lonely Hearts Dub Band. In 2012, Easy Star's Thrillah was released, a cover of Michael Jackson's classic album.
