The topic says it all: who do you think do the best "legitimate" live sets in electronic dance music?
When I say legitimate live I mean something more than pushing play in ableton live, triggering a few loops, and dancing around. There has to be at least a small element of live arrangement for it to be worth doing. Otherwise I'd rather hear a dj. The house scene seems to be lacking many good lives; the best ones seem to be in the techno/trance scenes. Here are my votes:
SON KITE/MINILOGUE: These guys absolutely blow the dance floor away when they play live. Live arranging, tweaking, voice fx, midi violin to trigger sounds, and all perfect mixed into one seamless whole.
DER DRITTE RAUM: Similiar style and set-up to the Son Kite boys. Two computers running into one mixer, live arranging and creation, and of course a 303 or 2 for the tweaks. The live set posted here a few weeks ago is a bomb!
INFUSION: Everyone who's seen them play live knows how hard they rock. Live arranging from a hard drive full of loops, live synth work, and live vocals. Too bad the vocals suck so hard--terrible pop singing. But when he just does voice FX, the effect is awesome.
MATHEW JONSON: Only one guy, so probably limited in what he can do live, but he triggers all the percussive elements live from an Electron DrumMachine, and actually tunes the hits to the PA system and room! Am interested to see him live.
Who would you add to this list?
