    I agree...arbitrage is the deal...

The big money was back in the day when there wasn't program trading. Now the big money institutions throw around millions using automated transactions...

I guess that is somewhat of a good thing...remember Nick Leeson?

Oh I know, definitely my cup of tea though. I'm not the best in my class, that's for sure. But then again, I don't expect to get the career I 'dream of' the day I step up to get my diploma anyway.

ska, I saw someone at Target today that looked just like you. I kept thinking, "Is that Joe? Nah, it can't be... if it were, he'd be running away."

I made my fortune by shorting Jiffy Pop when the microwave oven came out. People thought I was crazy, but I had the vision.

Re: anyone else writing the CFA tommorow?

Ok you smartasses, help me out with this one. It's the only one I'm having trouble with.

Assume that bonds with 6 years to maturity are currently trading at $910, they pay a 6.2% coupon (paid semiannually) and you are pricing futures that expire in 18 months. Additionally, the current t-bill rates are:
                          • Time to Maturity_______Rate
                            3 months.........................2%
                            6 months.........................2.5%
                            9 months.........................2.8%
                            12 months.......................3.1%
                            15 months.......................3.4%
                            18 months.......................3.8%
                            24 months.......................4.3%

If the futures are overvalued, then in 18 months you will have to payback a loan (consisting of principle and interest) of what amount?

Obviously the bond's maturity is irrelevant as are the 3, 9, 15, & 24 month rates. I'm using the formula: (Spot - [31/e^(.025)(.5)] - [31/e^(.031)])*e^(.03(1.5) but I'm getting the wrong answer. I keep getting $899.15 but it's not one of the choices. I'm pretty sure I can narrow it down to get the correct one, but I'm kind of lost.

I'm a bit rusty at spot rates and bootstrapping bonds...plus it's 8:37am and I got a case of the mondays...

maybe The Sun / Sea can knock it out? His neurons should be back in working order.

No. I had the right answer the whole time, the professor stated today that he screwed up his calculations when determining the answer. I fucking hate that. I spent no less than 45 minutes calculating.
