    Ex Machina

Just when I thought sci fi would never get me excited again...I ran into this gem of a movie which was surprisingly excellent, Exmachina explores the whole Ai theme with a much more darker touch than expected.

I thought about seeing this but with Furious 7, Avengers & Mad Max all back to back, I'll wait for the dvd or Netflix release. Looks good though.

Great movie, I didn't have very high hopes for this one but it was a lot better than I anticipated.

                - very interesting premise, which could have been so much better
                - very good execution, esp. cinematography and acting (I'm looking at you Oscar Isaac)
                - yeah, underdeveloped script with quite a few inconsistencies

                overall, not bad

So well executed with good soundtrack, beautiful cinematography, good acting, but undeveloped plot. The premise is good and in line with the rumors about Google but the reveal was such a let down. Genius nerd essentially uses his AI as sex toys and servants, machine rises up, meh. I enjoy Garland's films but he had the same cockup with Sunshine. Maybe it's just this theme, it's hard to develope a good ending with something as vague as AI. Transcend had the same problem, even worse. Her solved it by having the AI leave humanity behind. Still enjoyed this more than Transcend and Her.

                            Re: Ex Machina

I watched this a few weeks back, and really liked the whole idea, the unrolling of the plot, and the outcome.

It's gotten compared to Blade Runner, and the comparisons have merit - deals with a lot of philosophical questions about the nature of true artificial intelligence and the dubious nature and possible consequences in creating it.

Really liked the locations and the house/compound of Oscar Isaac's character - Norway makes for a pretty convincing Alaska, and the mansion is mostly real, according to this Vanity Fair article:

Ex Machina’s Stunning Mansion is (Mostly) Real | Vanity Fair

Alex Garland did a great job overall - I've really liked his screenplay output and he shows in this that he's a very capable director that knows how to set up and execute a great story, with great dialogue and staging of the conversations in an absorbing manner.

Really regret not seeing this in the theatres, but it had a limited run. The Blu-Ray transfer of this, however, is really, really good.
Score so far: Owned ZoverTard 8 times - twice in one week! Twice more in same weekend.

I liked this, they achieved a lot I thought with well written dialogue and actors/casting - the plot twist was excellent - and had me on the edge of my seat.
