We were first in line at 9:45am, seated at 10:30 when it opened (line out the door all day, showing up early is a must), and proceeded to mow down a variety of oysters, assorted fresh raw fish- yellow tail, halibut, tuna, salmon, etc, with the winner of the bunch being scallop sashimi served Sicilian style- ordered two of those....plus soft shell crab salad with louie dressing...washed it all down with copious amounts of Napa sav. blanc and Anchor Steam. We rolled out of there a couple of hours later and walked the food and booze off for several miles trekking Sf's neighborhoods by foot, really the only way to get to know a city.

The rest of the day, and really the whole trip, did the same, walking, popping into bars, restaurants, etc for a bite, craft beer, breweries, from morning to night. Usually capped off the day with a nap around 5pm then up late for serious eats, drinks and techno.

Speaking of techno, man Guti live @ Monarch was disappointing. First 30-45 minutes were great, until we realized the rest of his set was going to be the same monotonous stuff. Filters and bass drops, not at all indicative of his production. I still say Void is one of the most overrated sound systems i've ever heard/played on. Bailed early for afters at a friend's house in Mission...destroyed a piñata for my bday, i think I actually stabbed it at one point.

Alcatraz was the most touristy thing we did, and it's totally worth the 3 hours or so out of your time to do it- really incredible, if for nothing else the view back from the island at SF. There is talk of it being closed to the public soon because there aren't funds to keep it from deteriorating at the pace it is with as many people visit it daily, so if you're in SF soon and it's not closed, go.

Best higher end meal was toss up between Nopa (hot chefy industry joint) and La Mar (peruvian ceviche), both completely different but great. Originally had planned my 40th to knock French Laundry off my bucket list, but it's being remodeled and expanded so it's operating out of a temporary space at the moment which I wasn't having any of for my first Keller experience. Next time.
Great! Looks like you had a good one
