    Diggers Kiss100 show last night

Just listened to Diggers mix this morning.

I thought the first 20 mins was excellent - the first track amazing, full of dynamics and really seemed ready to set things up nicely for a great show. While it may not be the type of track played out in a club (although the sign of a great DJ, is one that can encorporate these sort of tracks and still keep things moving along) - the 1st track was suited to home listening and its nice to hear non-obvious EDM, where a lot of thought and talent has gone into things.

The remainder of the show seemed to be dull, non-musical electro plodders .. the sort of tunes that, when a sets really happening, gives you a break to nip to the tiolet and hit the bar before the next great track kicks in.

All in all very frustrating - plus Diggers must be v busy ... he didn't even announce the track names.

Oh well .. moan over - and yes, I will be hoping to catch him at either Pacha or Space in Ibiza this summer, in the hope that (please ... please .. please) he's finally cleared out half of that record box and replaced the shite with some decent prog.

As any football fan knows, you always live in hope that next season will be THE big one - so I will always support the DJ's that have given so much enjoyment (and frustration) over the years. Its an expensive habit thought ... maybe I'd better get addicted to crack instead, it'd be far cheaper !

This release was mastered direct from vinyl at the request of the DJ and as such features natural sound characteristics of this medium such as record surface noise.

Any suggestions? IMO much of what's coming out these days in terms of 'prog' is regurgitated basslines and unemotional melodies, etc. It's like 3 tracks from 5 years ago had a menage a trois and spawned some sort of super love child that has taken on elements of all 3 parents. I've said it once and I'll say it again, you people that are unhappy with the current state of affairs need to get out there and make some "quality" prog. It seems as though this industry is going the route of mainstream music where the labels are the ones running things. They're not even giving "prog" tunes a listen because they're "not selling". They're "not selling" because they're not good (for the most part). C'mon guys, do something about it.

Drum&Bass is where the true dark is currently at. I have got some really dope tracks lately. From Tech Itch to Cause for Concern, I am being shot straight into hell.

also really nice to touch some decks again, gosh do i miss my twin babies.

asdf_remark: change it up. it is possible you are just burn't out. possible for the most hardcore fans. Explore different tastes.

I think you hit the nail on the head with your comment so you must know how to make those qualit tracks we're all craving for... Be a leader and the sheep shall follow thee

well said, simonr. First 20 min of the Digweed show is amazing ... it takes you back to the real stuff from years ago. The stuff that pulled me into prog. And after 25 mins, you realize that you're living in the year 2005 where there's no place for emotional tracks anymore. It's a miracle that an Album as Zero Gold has been released this year. IMO one of the best albums form the last years ... album where every track has been produced from a deeper feeling and in which you discover the need of the producer to express himself ... in a musical way. That's what has disappeared last years: music that tells you a story, music on which you can attach a certain image, feeling.

Yes, we all should go out and start producing. That's what I have been doing the last 5 years. But for one or another reason, I've given up. I used to put a lot of inspiration out of alot of sets. But since electro stuff has become popular, I have a serious lack of inspiration. Maybe with the pole folder kiss set and his Zero gold, inspiration will come back again ...

I don't produce. I've never claimed to produce or to know what it "takes" to make a quality track. Everything I speak of I've heard from people "in" in the industry. Spot me the production software, a G4 or Powerbook, and some time and I'll see what I can come up with.

I wasn't trying to be a dick either. I was merely saying that rather than the constant bitching that goes on, not only on this board, put that energy to good use and make some of this 'quality prog' that you yearn for. I actually like the stuff that Digweed mixes. IMO it's not 'electro' or 'tech house' or whatever genre you want to label it, it's a hybrid. You won't be able to find one post of me bitching about Digweed's (or insert other bitched-about DJ name here) recent sets.

No fuckin shit man.... having heard pole folder last night and going again tonight, i was just telling my roomate this same deal... I said "I got to hear pretty music again, It's been so long since we've been allowed to hear pretty music on a dancefloor for an extended period of time".... and damn it was done right....

And this thread likes you. Beautiful music is out there people, you just have to find it. I'm not going to sit up on this cloud in my loin cloth and tell you how you "just don't get it", but I will say that it's out there. You MUST have an open mind. Don't think for one minute that these same discussions, albeit not on the internet, took place some 15-20 years ago when the old Chicago and Detroit DJs and producers started toying around with non-vocal, non disco-influenced tracks. Get with the year people, these discussions are really starting to get old.

If I come across as an ass, I blame it on the Stella I just ingested.

Well, then get ready. He just destroyed Vinyl night (Denver) with this crazy prog that brought back memories, and it was all stuff I've never even heard before.

True, and I wasn't talking about classifiying prog either. "Zero gold" is the perfect example of that, as it has far more influences than just "prog". What I'm talking about is the lack of subtility in a lot of tracks lately. A lot of most recent tracks sound so cheap - let's call it minimal and experimental - and that's what makes me feeling frustrated a lot. Seems like this business has been searching for commercial ends, instead of originality and subtility. It's like craftsmanship has been replaced by mass production. Call me not being open minded, or being an elitist ... but I know what I'm seacrhing in music .. and it's not the 2005 stuff.
