so basically kids don't want to go to clubs because they can't take cool selfies that will in turn, make them look cool on social media? wtf?

regardless if this is true or not, an interesting take on the decline of the nightclub.

I have just got back from Ibiza and all of the DJ's people like to slate here (Kelvin Harris, Guetta, Aoki etc) seem to be doing really well. They are packing out Ushuaia week in week out, while some of the old prog DJ's seem to struggle to get a gig on the Island. Warren is playing Eden, Burridge a beach bar, Seaman, Howells and Hernan are nowhere to be seen. Sasha, Digweed are still playing decent gigs,but that's about it.

Kids don't want to go to the sort of club events that their parents used to go to.

If you go back to Sasha and Digweed's early days, the music they were playing was a lot more emotional and uplifting. Anyone that has followed that journey will know that it has come along way since then. Some people followed that journey, others didn't. What they play now is far from emotional or uplifting, which is what appeals to younger audiences.

This is a cycle that occurs about every decade - clubs that were in vogue eventually exceed their shelf life, attract clientelle that don't share the values of the original supporters and a new generation of musics and listeners come in - bringing a change of the guard.

It's been happening for some time. I'd say since the 70's with disco. When clubs in the 80's got tired then the raves moved in. Then the clubs came back with the superclub era. Bottle service and the whole VIP bullshit eventually took over and now a new underground is starting to emerge.

Circle of life, yo.

From a social media/public life/photography perspective clubs need to stop posting terrible looking photos of the people that are going. Everyone looks haggard in those photos which isn't a good way to motivate anyone to come back .

no one mentioned the cost of a night out in a nightclub yet? shit is expensive, when you take into consideration the cost of living etc most people can't afford to go to clubs these days as they probably have a mortgage and kids to feed

plus there is only so many times you can watch the same dj play.... how many times have the big names been round the circuit in the last 30 years

I was referring to college age kids with disposable income mostly....adults who are married and have kids aren't really the target market for a nightclub.

If the event is good, money is not an issue. I was going out everyweek in the 90's and blowing all my cash on it. Drugs have gone down in cost (and quality) Door prices haven't gone up much. These days there is not an army of clubbers or DJ's treking up and down the UK every weekend. But the reason behind it has nothing to do with money.

music taste has got a lot to do with it but so has boredom, the big dj's just don't seem to have the same energy/passion these days... tell me the same people that went to see them in their prime will say that they are still as passionate about them in today's world. chances are the passion has faded for them too

I feel out of all the DJs I have followed, only Hernan Cattaneo has kept the same sound that I fell in love with.
