    Oh dear me Sony

A while ago I put a few of the tracks that I had on my hard disk into a mix. I'm not a DJ - it was a bit shit really, but it was fun. Trawl through my old posts here and you might still find it.

Anyway, a while ago I uploaded it to SoundCloud - again, just for the hell of it. It's probably been listened to about five times ever and it even got one like!

So tonight I got an email from SoundCloud. Sony Entertainment have instructed them to take the mix down due to copyright infringement.

What the hell Sony? Don't you have better things to pay your employees to do? Jeesus!

did you put the tracklist on soundcloud? just curious how they could have identified it as copyright infringement.

      soundcloud at it again

they have a bot that scans for copyrighted material, there has been a huge influx of them banning people for uploading dj mixes but since they have signed some sort of deal with the majors things been getting a bit nasty from a dj's point of view

that's the thing, that culture has grown into copying digital files as time has moved on, the majors don't make as much money as they used to say in the 80's because music released from independent labels has been popular for so long and there is so much to choose from, the majors don't like their music out there if they are not making a dime from it that is a simple truth whether the dj/uploader see's it as promotion or not and its probably why they are buying up lots of places popular with self promoting people like dj's and smaller labels.

Yeah, I know. Hoping my new life as a music pirater will pay the bills.

Give it a go... Variations On Go.mp3 - Google Drive. At the time I was quite pleased, though there's some cheese in there. Should point out: it's not a turntable mix; it was done with Mixmeister.

HearThis? Same as SC, no ballbusters (for the moment).

It's not just Sony -that can MODERATE SC's content as they see fit and can send you a "strike", a real copyright infringement notice: after two they'll remove the download feature, after 3 you're out! Even if you spent 500 pounds for a pro plan.

But things can only get worse:

You can't post dj mixes anywhere, every track can get you in trouble, every sample, every loop. The same applies to edits and remixes.
