A Japanese man live-streaming his video gaming reputedly set fire to his own apartment by accident as his webcam continued to record the jaw-dropping incendiary action.
The YouTube webcam footage shows the short-cropped man apparently chilling in his apartment, manga lining his bookshelves. He is seen smoking and monkeying around with a lighter which fails to spark.
He then tries to ignite the lighter's fuse by striking it like a match. He succeeds but the flame triggers excess lighter fluid on the outside surface of the lighter and catches ablaze (starts around 4:50 in the video).
The gamer casually discards the fuse by tossing it in a bag but the paper-filled bag bursts into flames.
While he's seen still obsessing over the lighter, his computer reads aloud comments from his online followers who tell him about the burning paper.
He tries to extinguish the rapidly spreading fire with cardboard but only fans the flames further.
After spritzing the fire with water, he attempts to smother it with a pillow – to no avail.
He finally flees the inferno while his webcam continues to broadcast the fire.
