Re: Eternal Posting Of The Nonsense Kind
Sleep gives your consciousness a chance to reset/restore/renew...& to dream, as long as you don't wake up and immediately start thinking the same old/icky thought patterns; it can be refreshing. Scientists don't know much sometimes.

Re: Eternal Posting Of The Nonsense Kind
I thought human consciousness is in an altered / unaware state during sleep paralysis, no?www.mjwebhosting.com

Re: Eternal Posting Of The Nonsense Kind
^^ I think it is during sleep and in that altered state, your consciousness is withdrawn for awhile, so it can be refreshed/reset.
Just my guess, don't really know.... but I think sleep is more for the mind than body because although it is relatively still during sleep, body functions keep functioning while our minds get a true rest from constant thoughts. Constant thought and movement can be exhausting, but maybe the constant thoughts are what's really exhausting??? idk
Then there are states where you're mind is running so high (like when you're mentally exhilarated), you don't seem to need any sleep, or much less of it. you know? The body keeps going like clockwork.
I have a daughter who sleepwalks, has all her life, and she'll have her eyes open, be talking right to you (though not making much sense) and carry on a conversation, but her consciousness is asleep; she won't even remember the conversation. It's really interesting. But also mind-boggling to me. She's someone who wakes up with poems recited in her mind, so we started leaving paper & pencil by her bed so she could quickly write them down as soon as she was awake.... before many thoughts run in & make her forget.
It can't be complete unawareness, but surely an altered state of consciousness of some sort. Sleep can bring wondrous healing if meditative or you can sleep and continually remain in your perceived bondage upon awakening; choice is yours. maybe?
The mind is such an fascinating place.
