@Model It's got nothing to do with Americans or Europeans or Asians or anything like that. Some people are educated and some aren't. If you've been listening to this music since the late 90's...you're probably going to know a lot more than someone who heard Axwell two summer's ago and now likes EDM. Maybe you've never listened to this music before but you watched documentaries like "Liquid Vinyl" or "Pump Up The Volume" and therefor actually know something.

Haven't heard it yet but tech house isn't that far removed from techno. Considering folks even in this thread can't agree if it's electro house, hard house, or tech house shows how easily subgenres can bleed into one another. Chins ready. prepare to stroke. Given that Detroit is arguably the birthplace of techno, let's not paint everyone on the continent with the same brush.

          Just to make things clearer:

In my opinion, Hawtin, the sexy superstar DJ, is hugely successful, crowds worship him but he's musically irrelevant. Not Plastikman or the Closer To The Edit experimentations, just his DJing.

^^ Not In imho. His breakthrough track spastic released in Feb 1993 quite possibly before you were born let alone clubbing , was the first track of many, too many to even think about that used a mid range sweep layed over minimal percussion and not much else that pretty much defined the Detroit Minimal Techno sound pioneered by UR that Hawtin was originally so enamoured with being from just across the lake in Windsor Ontario. Yes his style of music works better in a live environment. But just to write him off as just a DJ is imho is doing him an injustice as his sound has been imitated to death.
