    Re: Soundcloud question.

I think they're greatly overvaluing the worth/appeal of their content.

      Re: Soundcloud question.

Both of you can be easily correct, valid points for sure..

From the way i see it, i think SC is trying to be "the first" platform of that kind (Mixcloud, Hearthis) of moving their initial conception to some sort of Spotify..

      Formidable competition? Definitely yes.

      Unique? Definitely no.

Overvaluing the worth/appeal of their content? Not sure why.

If they offer this thing in the right way, pretty sure they will find a niche to subsist earning money (and maybe without legal issues)

But what do i know? Nothing lol

        Re: Soundcloud question.

Let's be honest: DJs/producers, both professionals and wannabes, made SC great. When, lest we forget, a Pro Plan would cost you 500 dollars. Since you could find any imaginable set (with a pinch of warez here and there) on SC, sites like ours almost lost their reason to be. Everyone had an account at SC, everything was happening there (2011-2012?).

SC basically started as a platform for dance music people, their offer being: give us your money and you can post all your mixes!
All of a sudden they told us: sorry, you can't post mixes here, you're out, no refund, no second chances. "This place is for "sounds", ie: your own compositions. Only to find out that samples were forbidden too, not to mention edits and remixes.

All in all, a great deal.

Quite funny actually, my bookmark still says Dashboard- Downloads for free. . They sold out to the record companies.

That's true. No d/l option anymore after two strikes (you still pay the same money).

                  Re: Soundcloud question.

It strikes me that not so many people are that fused about the download option. I looked on my Hulkshare and the number of plays far outweighs the number of downloads. You are always going to have a problem when you let people download and keep music for free. Maybe soundcloud should have had an app that lets you download and store for 7 days (like the iplayer).

                    Re: Soundcloud question.

This way the people who rip tracks from SC and Youtube will reap a 128kbs version anyway. So in the end: the files will still be available through blogs or zippyshare but in really poor quality.
