Changing File Extensions in Windows XP

Having trouble with chnaging the file extensions, in the old edition of windows it was just a case of right clicking and changing it mp3. Now i cant seem to do the same, am i being stupid and missing something obvious?

You could try left clicking on the file once and then clicking again in the grey box to change the ext.
mjwebhosting you know it makes sense

You probably have the file extensions hidden.

Go to Explorer and go to Tools -> Folder Options -> View. And make sure the option for "Hide file extensions for known file types" does not have a check mark next to it.

If you don't know what explorer is or how to use it. Hold down the Windows Key, between the Alt and Ctrl keys and hit E. Then go through the menu's above. Make sure the .whatever shows up.

Now you can just right click the file and hit rename, or click once and then a second time shortly after (not a double click) which automatically allows you to use the rename function. Voila.

you can also highlight it by clicking once, and hit the F2 key and change it that way. even if the file ext. is hidden, you can still change the file name.
