    Equilibrium

This is one undiscovered gem that I found at Blockbuster. It was a straight-to-DVD release that I think would have had a decent showing for itself in theaters.

It takes place in the future (after a nuclear WWIII) where any type of human emotion is outlawed in order to prevent more wars. Christian Bale (Batman Begins) stars as a badass enforcer of the "no feeling" laws but he rebels once he starts to feel emotions himself.

Think of a mix of the books Anthem and Fahrenheit 451 meeting the Matrix.

I was pleasantly surprised by this movie because it's an action movie with a great story that's worth following. 9/10 IMO

You can't have manslaughter without laughter.

"Son," he said without preamble, "never trust a man who doesn't drink because he's probably a self-righteous sort, a man who thinks he knows right from wrong all the time. Some of them are good men, but in the name of goodness, they cause most of the suffering in the world. They're the judges, the meddlers. And, son, never trust a man who drinks but refuses to get drunk. They're usually afraid of something deep down inside, either that they're a coward or a fool or mean and violent. You can't trust a man who's afraid of himself. But sometimes, son, you can trust a man who occasionally kneels before a toilet. The chances are that he is learning something about humility and his natural human foolishness, about how to survive himself. It's damned hard for a man to take himself too seriously when he's heaving his guts into a dirty toilet bowl."

bale is on a steady rise. all his roles are eccentric. i like him as an actor.
this movie was pretty cool no-dub. i saw it the first time about 6 months ago and really enjoyed it.

also see Bale in a lesser known, but equally cool flick: The Machinist

Bale is one of my favs... Ever since American Psycho, the guy kicks ass. I bought Equilibrium the day it came out and I watch it at least once every couple of months. Bale has to have the best facial expression for an actor. That's why I think Batman, American Pshycho, and the Machinist have fit him so well.

I also recommend Laurel Canyon and Captain Corelli's Mandolin. I think he's an amazing actor and not very well known.

      Ok

That's probably changing with Batman at the top of the box office for a second weekend.

All men dream: but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds wake in the day to find that it was vanity: but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act their dreams with open eyes, to make it possible.

Very silly and the Gunkata was hilariously funny and well done. Nice little riff on 1984 and Brave New World, but nothing too memorable. God bless those Germans and their skewered take on it.

2 out of 10 IMO this movie is utter shit and not even worth the dvd they burnt it onto. its a really bad attempt at a brave new world comparison. acting is terrible and dont tell me that the gov't never bothered to check the sewers for these people, i mean, no one ever did work down there?>
