    DEEP IMPACT

What was Deep Impact (EPOXI)? The primary mission of NASA’s Deep Impact was to probe beneath the surface of a comet. The spacecraft delivered a special impactor into the path of Tempel 1 to reveal never-before-seen materials and provide clues about the internal composition and structure of a comet. Nation United States of America (USA) […]

lets hope this one doesnt end up like that mars lander they screwed up. nothing like doing the calculations in feet, and then programing the thing in meters. WOOPS.

Question is, why are they testing this probe? Is armageddon right behind it.

If so then good. I think it is just an attempt to finally see what a comet is really made of. I mean, they are relics from the beginning of time. Why not see what it can tell us about the universe. That is some serious shit though. I read somewhere that the probe itself travelled 5000 miles to meet the comet...and it hit a moving target from that distance. A 23,000 mph moving target!!!!!

"Son," he said without preamble, "never trust a man who doesn't drink because he's probably a self-righteous sort, a man who thinks he knows right from wrong all the time. Some of them are good men, but in the name of goodness, they cause most of the suffering in the world. They're the judges, the meddlers. And, son, never trust a man who drinks but refuses to get drunk. They're usually afraid of something deep down inside, either that they're a coward or a fool or mean and violent. You can't trust a man who's afraid of himself. But sometimes, son, you can trust a man who occasionally kneels before a toilet. The chances are that he is learning something about humility and his natural human foolishness, about how to survive himself. It's damned hard for a man to take himself too seriously when he's heaving his guts into a dirty toilet bowl."

But you know all that we do is invade peaceful, innocent, fun-loving countries for their resources and make shitty sci-fi movies, right?

Actually this whole thing is absolutely mind-blowing. Can't wait until they are able to uncover what was found. With the WMAP looking back in space to when the universe was only 400,000 years old, this is an amazing step.

Yeah, you've got it dude. We actually have physical evidence that is billions of years old now. It took us crashing a probe into a frickin' comet...but we've got it now. I can't wait to see what they find in there. *Sits on hands*

How do we have physical evidence. We can't go out to this thing and get the evidence, so it's all really just a bunch of talk. It's like those Mars rocks that people were selling a few years ago. How the hell did those things get here???

I'm all for pushing science, but this whole comet thing was pretty dumb in my mind. Why not use that money to make the space station bigger to help those up there.
