    New Order

New Order was one of the first bands that introduced dance music to me. How about you?

WOW, in a way that's so cool. Blue Monday came out in 1983 and Diggers dropped a monster remix of that @ the Palace NYE this year. See everything comes full circle. The first time you heard of them is 20 years after Diggers was intoduced to their music.

I would also add that Philip Glass, Brian Eno (ELO), Jean Michael Jarre, and James Brown had a huge impact on how dance music has shaped.

(ok, so they are not bands...).

Point well taken, and very relevant because some of them influenced Kraftwerk. Who in some way or another influenced all of us here.

I love New Order. Can't forget about Morrissey and Depeche Mode.

They didnt influence my taste in dance music as I was around a long time before them. But I did see them do one of my favourite live concerts about four years ago at the Reading Festival.

Here's a small paper I wrote on New Order for my english class last year: http://home.no/bjerknes/english/order.html

Btw. Low-Life (1985) is my favourite album.

I?m a New Order convert, after spending some time blind to the fact that they?re awesome.

I was introduced to Joy Division by a few punk/goth friends of mine about 15 years ago, but for a long time I wasn?t really into New Order (too "happy" and "poppy" sounding for me at the time).

As my tastes started going more electronic, I discovered them, funnily enough, when Bernard Sumner (N.O?s lead vox) released an album with Johnny Marr from the Smiths under the name "Electronic", no less, around 1990. It was even more pop than New Order, but somehow I fel in love with it.

Through the years I slowly started getting acquainted with all their stuff and even infected a few of my metal friends when Orgy released a heavy version of "Blue Monday" (which I think is awesome BTW).

They?re probably among the top 5 most influential bands in electronic music, IMHO.

I remember the first time I heard the immortal words "how does it feel to treat me like you do" and just losing my mind.
