Count me as one of the 50. My friends were up on the terrace BEGGING me to come up and check it out, but there is something in my DNA that wouldn't let me willingly leave a room in which Sasha & Digweed were playing. It paid off, because I actually got to go up in the booth with them. Wicked...

P.S. That was the darkest set I've ever heard... I'm not sure I'd even call it "music." More like a journey into my inner psyche narrated by S&D.

FYI ... as you've been away for 2-years - Diggers has a new hairdo. Sasha plays off Ableton and has ditched the prog for acid (so you may be a tad disappointed with the stuff he's playing).

as someone who has seen him live 6 or so times in the past 2 years, he's only been getting better since the switch over from vinyl. but then again maybe i like the fact that he doesnt keep things stagnant.

but thanks for your opinion, just dont assume everyone will agree with it. thats quite big headed of ya

Hey Jay813 .. not being "big headed" - it was simply a tongue in cheek remark, with an added touch of irony: I'm genuinely glad you dig what Sasha's playing currently. Having played Sasha's 2000 (Tel Aviv & Space Birthday) 2001 (Boston & Okyo) and 2002 (Icon & La Locomotive) sets over the past 10-days I have my own opinion which I've aired (I've seen him live 3-4 times a year for the past decade, for me he hasn't been cutting it lately). Its great that people like his new direction - let hope he delivers for us all in 2007.

Re: Sasha & Digweed play to empty tent (almost)

fair enough, i realize that he has taken a different direction from his earlier stuff, but not everyone is going to like the change, i mean who hasnt changed in the past 10 years or so. thats the thing about house music i guess, its always evolving and im sure at some point i wont like the direction he will take, so not a stab at you by any means...

personally i dont care for sasha pre 2001, nor do i understand what is the big deal about digweed on this board, i mean i missed my chance to really catch him by himself last week in miami, but the two times that i have seen him he was with sasha and both times(wmc07,nye07) digweed bored me almost to tears wishing sasha would come back and bring the party to life, but i wont go as far as to say he sucks ( I'll give him one more shot before i do that, lol)

Re: Sasha & Digweed play to empty tent (almost)

I'd always rated Sasha ahead of Digweed for the way he can destroy a room (and Diggers has, at times, had a reputation for "plodding") ... but to these ears there's been a turnaround, with Diggers live sets over the past 2-years being far far better and more inspiring than Sasha's. The Space and Mumbai sets from 2006 are far far better than the Zouk and Zoo House clicking-drum minimalism. Just my opinion and its great that we have different tastes ... it makes the chat more lively.

i also think that its a good thing that people dont forget that its about the MUSIC, not the DJ.

its gotta be the hardest thing for a dj, any dj, to try to keep things fresh and hopefully picking up new fans without alienating your original fan base, because if you plan on sticking around long enough, you have to evolve while not "selling out" or you die off.
