    anyone seen this before?
    Audiopad is a composition and performance instrument for electronic music which tracks the positions of objects on a tabletop surface and converts their motion into music. One can pull sounds from a giant set of samples, juxtapose archived recordings against warm synthetic melodies, cut between drum loops to create new beats, and apply digital processing all at the same time on the same table. Audiopad not only allows for spontaneous reinterpretation of musical compositions, but also creates a visual and tactile dialogue between itself, the performer, and the audience.

    Audiopad has a matrix of antenna elements which track the positions of electronically tagged objects on a tabletop surface. Software translates the position information into music and graphical feedback on the tabletop. Each object represents either a musical track or a microphone.

      i can imagine someone putting it on a larger scale as a installation piece at a museum or club. making the people movements across the space to create sound. imagine a bunch of people dancing and creating music at the same time.

      pretty cool stuff.

        wtf?? the ppl who would want to make the most noise tend to have the least talent at both dancing and music .. iv'e neva been near a gun in my life .. but if i had one it would b a bloodbath by the end of the night

            Looks like it comes from MIT.
            It seems fun and doesnt really sound as synthetic as some music production software.
            Id like one for x-mas.

                yea, i saw this floating around a few years ago... its definitly very neat stuff.

                this particular rendition of it is a little 'artsy' for practical application, but this approach isnt far off from where i COULD see dance music going. putting a lot more of the art back in the dj's hands -- using only the elements of tracks and constructing them completely on the fly.

                kind of how i envisioned maven+ableton to be, except once sasha 1) practices more and 2) gets more tracks as different pieces.

                  Yea but still...insert the right samples and you might be creating some cool stuff with it. Could be real fun...
