12/08/2005:
DJ Illya will be jacking your ears with his brand of Chicago house and deep grooves on the radio for 2 hours tonight.
We'll also be hearing a classic Mix Up set from June 2002 by John Digweed in the tribal progressive house style.
Illya hails from Sydney and started out in the dance scene going to raves from the age of 14. He started to work on his DJ skills when he turned 20 while working at clubs like the Underground cafe where he was inspired by DJs like Derrick Carter and Mark Farina and the sound that they played - deep to Chicago house. With the love of his chosen genre, Illya began playing around Sydney to enthusiastic crowds and even ended up playing with his heroes, Derrick Carter and Mark Farina at Bondi.
He currently maintains many residencies in Sydney, like Home nightclub.
He has just released his first mix CD for the website inthemix.com.au in celebration of their annual top 50 DJ poll along with Melbourne robo groove DJ Boogs. Both of them are touring currently on the back of this release.
Catch DJ Illya at Sydney - Home - August 13th, and at Adelaide - Earth Nightclub - August 26th.
John Digweed is a name that resounds in dance music culture.
A man who served as resident at Renaissance during its early-to-mid nineties heyday and who also put on his Bedrock events for the past 10 years. Teaming up with DJ Sasha, they set club land on fire with their soul stirring sets of progressive house. With best selling compilations behind them like Northen Exposure, they were also the first U.K. DJ's to hold a club residency in the U.S. at Twilo in NY.
Further fame has been found through their Bedrock record label which has supported and published many great producers and has also diversified in sound with the advent of Bedrock Breaks.
John's current work is being done with the new DJ technology, Ableton Live, but on Mix up you will be hearing a classic set from John Digweed recorded in June 2002 exclusively for Mix up triple j.
Enjoy
