    Technics SL-DZ1200-CD-Player - Experiences?

    Hey, guys..

my girlfriend wants to order one of these:

    Does anybody already own this?
    How are the experiences?
How do I generate a loop for the SD-card?
    Can I use any SD-card?
What software do I need to gererate loops?

I already know that the issue on this is, that
the scratching-function doesn?t work correctly, especially
when "pitch-lock" is on. But who needs this anyway?

    Thanx for your answers!

        Re: Technics SL-DZ1200-CD-Player - Experiences?

Thanks, guys, but I already know that the opinions about the Technics
are different. Some really like it, some thinking its shitty.
Thats why I?m asking about own experiences, not hearsay-things...

My girlfriend, however, has already tested it for herself, and she finds
that it?s good. Vinyl-like feeling and such. But she hasn?t compared
        the Technics to the Pio/Numark.

For the price, I could get the Technics for 700?, where the Pionieer CDJ 1000
costs, aswell as the Numark, about 900-1000?.

I hope I can find someone who can answer my questions...

        Cheers!

About the same as the CDJ-1000 or the techs, maybe a little bit lower...

In 2 gigs I had to use these technics, the first time I found it very sensible for the adjustments, too much imo. I trainwrecked with that, it sucked. On the second time i was more in use with it, but still.. it was a pain, its a CDJ I dont want to see in the booths.

I decided to go with them...now, ehhh kinda wished I too went with Pioneers.

Technics are VERY sensitive in terms of manipulating the platter...imo more sensitive then vinyl. Partly based on the silicone surface the platter is running under...but also I heard that there's a chance if used a lot said surface could wear out down the road...not sure if it's true, but if so, a big mistake right there.

Also, the loop capability sucks...plain and simple...I can barely get a perfect, let alone a reasonable good loop on it timing-wise.

I'd love to sell mine off and get Pioneer's, but I'll probably need to come up with another 2-300 if I do and I don't have it unfortunately.

At the same time, Technics did make some fairly nice features available, but IMO after the others came out, they had a chance to up the ante and compete heavily in the market, but dropped the ball on it.

I'll agree with FiFrota as well, I doubt you'll ever see these in many DJ booths.

PS..I've also used the CDJ-1000's as well...

                        Re: Technics SL-DZ1200-CD-Player - Experiences?

                        Thanks, lads, for your replies

So here are my experiences with the Technics 1200?s:

My girlfriend ordered hers, in mind that she would have the european right
for sending it back within 2 weeks if she dislikes it.

                        1. handling:
She could easely work with it, but like FM already sayd, it is very sensitive
                        to handle.

                        2. loops:
To build a perfect loop was almost impossible (for us).
Editing the saved loops is a pain in the ass...

                        3. Pitch-Lock ("Mastertempo"):
My gal often uses "older" prog/psy-trance-songs, but slowed down from
originally ~142 BPM to about 128BPM. The sound gets more intense,
                        sometimes techno-like.
With the "pitch-lock"-function the sound don?t gets boring when its pitched
                        down.
-> Unfortunately that thing doesn?t work correctly.
When slowed down, some strange effects have been hearable, like
                        "doubling" the kick-drum and such.
                        This function is surely unusable

                        4. SD-card:
To use the PC for building loops, samples, etc. is only possible, if one
buys that "SD-set" from Technics, which contains a special card-reader
(for the special file-system of Technics) together with a special software,
                        all in all about ~90?.
Again this is a useless thing...

So, now we are about to send that thing back to sender, we are
ordering a Pioneer CDJ800. My gal has had the chance to work with a pair
of them, and she told me it would be much easier to handle.
The price for the 800?s is about 550?, which is cheap in my eyes.
And the "pitch-lock" is working correctly.....

if anyone is interested in the demonstration-video of the Pioneer 800?s:
                        here ya go (Windows Media):
