that makes me sick. hundreds of thousands of people have lost their homes, and all these fucks can think about is stealing jewelry. I'd lock the fuckers up in a cell regardless... even if it IS submerged 20 feet in water
there's always black sheeps everywhere even in times like this ... the only beautiful thing that came out of Katrina was from above her

someone took photos of Katrina and posted them here

I'm starting with www.redcross.org. There are other organizations out there, but the RC is working overtime right now and probably represents the fastest way to get help to those who need it.

This is truly awful. My grandmother lives in New Orleans but is thankfully up here with my folks for my wedding in a few days -- she hasn't been able to reach anyone to find out how her house is, though. My grandpa, however, wasn't doing well (physically) and couldn't evacuate -- he ended up right in the path of the storm, just west of Mobile. To top it off, he was in a mobile home. Not a great idea, I realize, but it isn't like he's got a lot of say in the matter. We haven't been able to reach him, either, but are hoping that's just because people are without power, phone service, etc. I really hope he's OK.

Didn't really expect this from Chavez...

CARACAS (AFP) - Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez offered to send food and fuel to the United States after the powerful Hurricane Katrina pummeled the US south, ravaging US crude production.

The leftist leader, a frequent critic of the United States and a target himself of US disapproval, said Venezuela could send aid workers with drinking water, food and fuel to US communities hit by the hurricane.

"We place at the disposition of the people of the United States in the event of shortages -- we have drinking water, food, we can provide fuel," Chavez told reporters.

Chavez said fuel could be sent to the United States via a Citgo refinery that has not been affected by the hurricane. Citgo is owned by Venezuela's state-owned oil company, Petroleos de Venezuela (PDVSA).

In the Gulf of Mexico, which accounts for a quarter of total US oil output, 92 percent of crude and 83 percent of natural gas production were shut down due to Hurricane Katrina, which slammed Louisiana and Mississippi, according to US government data.

Venezuela is the fourth-largest provider of oil to the United States, supplying some 1.5 million barrels a day.

Last week, Chavez offered discount gasoline to poor Americans suffering from high oil prices and on Sunday offered free eye surgery for Americans without access to health care

That's stunning. It's stunning that any country would come to our aid, because, well, countries don't normally offer us aid for anything . It's even more stunning that it came from a Chavez right after Toolio called for his assassination...

                    Kudos to him...

would be great way to extend the olive branch and start to show that the two continents need to unite.

send money and food and water !!!!!!
