they should never allow them to move back because it is below sea level.. this was bound to happen. I feel bad for the people that got caught in the middle of this monster.. but in all honesty they were below sea level. humans shouldn't be there..

its not up to the general population to fix the levie problem. the Gov't needs to step up on this.
i hope they get it sorted so in the future there isnt another disaster of this scale.

          Re: Hurricane Katrina Damage

The number of dead was still unclear, a day after Katrina slammed the Gulf Coast with 145-mph winds. But one Mississippi county alone was believed to have lost as many as 80 people ? 30 of them from a beachfront apartment house that collapsed under a 25-foot wall of water. And Louisiana said many were feared dead there, too, making Katrina one of the most punishing storms to hit the United States in decades.

New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin (search) said hundreds, if not thousands, of people may still be stuck on roofs and in attics, and so rescue boats were bypassing the dead.

"We're not even dealing with dead bodies," Nagin said. "They're just pushing them on the side."

Who knows what the death toll may end up being once the flooding goes down. I can say this is worse than I ever could have imagined. Hardcore...hard-fucking-core.

what i'm worried most about is when the water finally recedes in a couple weeks, how many bodies are gonna be found in their homes?

Yep. Just like the tsunami...they just kept coming and coming and coming. This is the biggest tragedy I've ever witnessed. I knew it would be bad, but god damn....we are talking about an entire region of the country being completely leveled. Some of the shots I have seen are just beyond belief. People always say "It's like a bomb went off." Now I know what they mean. :?

Not to take away from the tragedy in the gulf, but this isn't even close to the scale of damage and loss from the Tsunami. I don't know if i'll ever see something like that in my life time again. I hope not.

^^^ Jenks is right. This is in no scale what occured over there. Still does not defeat the point that it is terrible in the states. Hit the sweet spot if you ask me. Most of the pre-landful predictions have come true. Lot's of people with nothing, but clothes on their back. It just feels a lot closer, because it is.

also the AP photo link has been updated. so if you kinda what to re-live it ... go ahead and click click.

Holy smackers what a mess, and what a tragedy man...Glad my dad is out at sea in the Gulf, which is usually the safer place to be in cases like this. All strength to those who havent heard from their family and/or friends in that region, I can only hope for the best for them.

[edit] Just sent my da an email, hope he's okay. Asked him if he can send some medication (redundant or just a little overdue, those are usually perfectly useable, since the dates are arbitrary) to places where they need some. It won't be much, but everything helps.

I just read that Pres. Bushh gave to the OK to crack our Oil reserve to help out b/c of all this madness.

Oh yeah much thanx to my man Jibby for hooking me up with some links for Donations to Victims of this Hurricane. It's the least someone from my area can do.
