    guide to electronic music

found this link. don't know if it has been posted before, but it could either answer or further complicate some of the music debates that have waged on in your posts.

seems fairly comprehensive. takes a little while to go through but a nice looking site.

      Re: guide to electronic music

takes nothing into effect for the history of electronic music. things like when they used to play weird things from speakers on the streets of NY in the 20's and the more dated beginnings.

herbert deutch wrote a great book about the real beginnings of electronic music and samplings.

the man was there with moog from the beginning.

I don't think I've ever seen a guide this biased and ridiculous.

i think his disclaimer link at the top sums up his intentions.

like i said this could either help or complicate the music debates posted.

its a little button at the top right of his interface. he basically says that its mostly his opinion and that it could be taken seriously and used as a guide, but in the end most is opinion. afterall he is on version 2.5. maybe he needs to update to 3.0.

some of it is really funny. i haven't even heard of some of the styles listed. (and glad that I haven't heard of some of those styles)

                    Re: guide to electronic music

I find it interesting that someone actually sat down and did all this. It is fairly comprehensive, and lists a lot of genres, some that I have never heard of either. I agree with most of the links between genres, as we listeners of EDM understand how the music progresses and changes into different sub-generes. Im not so sure about breakbeats being evolved from Miami Bass, which had its origination from hip-hop. I dont know, some of the old-school breaks maybe, but definetely not progressive breaks. Interesting page none the less.
