Sygate personal firewall, fucking one of the BEST firewalls I used. I tried Norton, I tried Zone alarm, McAfee.....one worse than the other. Then I stiumbled on Sygate (www.Sygate.com)
BRILLIANT piece of engineering..... personal is free, personal pro you have to pay for....
but this firewall is as light on resources as it is ferocious. In addition to inbound and outbound traffic, shuts down all ports and sets up rules, captures periodic snap shots of how programs execute and compares subsequent program launches to ensure no virus took over the program..... dont belive me ? do a windows update and see how many programs execute diferentlly, this firewall will tell you each and every one of them in pop up warnings
BRILLIANT PIECE OF WORK

Re:: Red X's all over the place!
those red x's are definitely because of norton. i disabled norton and got back on ms and don't see any red x's. i'll try what someone posted in the options area of norton.Never interrupt your enemy when he's making a mistake - Napoleon BonaparteComment

OK i have figured it out. Everybody with Norton that see only Red X's Go into Norton Internet Security and disable Privacy Control. Once this is turned off, refresh MS and the Red X's will disapear with beautiful icons designed for our viewing pleasure.Peace

Re:: Red X's all over the place!
theres no need to take off the Privacy Control, plus that is a security issue...
if u folow the http://www.flightsim.com/cgi/kds/mai...o/dcforum1.htm that swedetech posted then u will have a good idea what do do...
if u have a more up-to-date version of nortons, like myself, go to options> ppersonal firewall> web content (tab)> add site> [type www.mercuryserver.com] and then highlight it...
then permit the following on the global settings...
info about permited sites
animated images
scripts
flash animation
and permit the following on the user settings...
cookies.
This should now make everything work fine.
I would NEVER take the Privacy Control off, not a good idea.
Oh and yes... Nortons is shit, i'm taking it off as soon as i can!sweet in winter, sweet in rain...
