Greetings from the dirty South.
Mired in the midst of a hip-hop jungle, closed in on one side by pop-trance cheese; heavily guarded on the other by funky break?s rosy-shaded soldiers, our little show PURR ON PROTON RADIO fights for its place, staving off musical mediocrity, laziness and indifference, by digging deep to uncover the music that makes us move (inside and out) and showcase the genuine talent that brings it to life.
September 2005 is no exception.
Please tune in to PURR this Tuesday, September 27th, from 6-9pm EST (-5 GMT), as we look into the Equatorial mirror and welcome Simbad, from Cordoba, Argentina (S.A.), as our guest, with two separate and unique sets recorded just for the show.
Simbad is quickly becoming a familiar name, especially among touring djs, who carry tales of his control over early night floors with them everywhere they go. His name was first brought to us in an October 2003 Resident Advisor interview with Bill Patrick (Robots, 112 Crew, NYC), who, at that time, was warming the main room floor at ARC (NYC) for the world?s greatest talents.
In previewing the material Simbad has provided us for this month?s show, it?s clear to us that he has a firm understanding of the ?less is more? approach to djing and a deep appreciation for the subliminal power of music. Here?s a look at the one of what you?ll be hearing?

At 17, Simbad Segu?, arrived in Argentina in 1992 from his native France to settle down in Cordoba, his parent?s home-town. He then already had an artistic side forged up: his teens in Paris fed him with influences which led to incursions into graffiti, a culture that naturally edged him towards Hip Hop. It was in that context that his first approaches to electronic music occurred. In the beginning of the nineties he started listening to renown producers and DJs such as Laurent Garnier, Derrick May and Justin Robertson. Thus, his musical roots ?which had Reggae and Dub as solid pillars? acquired the contribution of Deep House, House and Techno, outstanding elements of his current profile.
In 1996 Simbad begins his professional career working at several clubs, cultural events, festivals and concerts until he was called to be part of the most avant-garde and important designs of the country. His career led him to share the booth with Deep Dish, Ralph Lawson, Roger Sanchez and other renown artists of the international scope.
Committed with the evolution of the electronic music culture, Simbad later on made incursions into the production area. He was a mentor in the organisation of the multi-disciplinary events Mundo-Mix and conducted the homonymous musical-cultural gathering which took place during 1998 at the Contemporary Art Centre of Cordoba. Two years later he worked on the artistic development of a little club, 33 rpm, located in the Red Zone of the city of Cordoba, which also had him behind the decks.
His performances in all of the editions of Creamfields BA stand out along this DJ?s timeline. He also participated in the innovative design 1Live!, introduced in 2004 by 2Net Productions, where he shared stage with Bent, the British Audio Bullys, and the sublime musician and producer BT.
At the same time as he designs his career abroad, based on his experiences in Uruguay and Mexico, Simbad currently alternates between his engagements in Buenos Aires and Cordoba (Casa Babylon, Lokitas, Peekaboo) and his presentations in cities all over the country. Likewise, every week he airs Metrodance (95.1 FM) on the section Late Night (Tuesdays from 1 am to 3 am).
We hope you enjoy the show?
