Thought it would be interesting to find out more about Opus. Found this very interesting article

"Opus audio codec comes with variable sample rates where you can use 8, 12, 24, and 48 ranges; you can pick anyone according to your purpose, but with the mp3 audio format, you can either choose 16 sample rate with MPEG-2 or 32 sample rate with MPEG-1.


So along with the variable sample rate options, the Opus audio codec can generate an audio file in less than half of the bit rate of an mp3 audio file which ensures lower size consumption with great low-latency performance, but at the same time, it will decrease the audio quality too.
So the comparison between Opus vs MP3 won’t be fair as their purposes are different. Opus format is mainly focused on communication-based uses where mp3 has various purposes. In terms of sound quality, the mp3 is far better, preferable, and more convenient."

Btw Opus is not a problem for me at all. I can either play it on VLC or convert to a playable format through Audacity.

Talking about interesting . I have been playing around with Audacity I was looking to see if I it could alter the bit rate as seen by spek. Basically the answer seems to be NO which is what I w expected . Couldn't possibly be that easy surely.

Now I first met Hernan in Australia in 2006 and he gave me the Triple J mix file on a cd. It was supposed to be 192 at the time. I remember him asking me if I knew what MP3 was . Anyway I ran this through spek and tried exporting in other bit rates and they all seemed to work Including wav . If any would like to share knowledge on this it would be very much appreciated.

I remember sending him a thank you message some months back, for uploading so many mixes. He responded with something along the lines of "I share as much music as I can".

I really wish more artists had that mindset. Don't get my started on the artists & groups (looking at you PFG) who limit the audio quality of mixes or where it's uploaded so to not have an available download (talking about not allowing mixes to be "podcasts".
