Iran is not like Iraq, and Syria is not like Iran.

According to analysts, attacking Syria or Iran, would cause the middle east to fall apart. Syria is mainly Sunni, as is the majority of the middle east and northen africa. Despite political differences, if you go ask any person in the middle east and ask what will happen if the west attack Syria, see what the response is.....95% will say they will join in, men and women, even children. Arab Sunnis believe in one arab-islamic nation. They will not lie down and watch this one go by. Iraq was different case, as their dictator was a brutal one. So there wasn't the passion and the patriotism that would be expected.

Historically there are four main nations in the middle east. In terms of importance for arabs...

      1. Saudi Arabia
      2. Egypt
      3. Syria
      4. Iraq

Britain and Israel know well what happened to them when they invaded Egypt after world war 2.

...and U.S are just beginning to find out what its like to invade a country in the middle east.

Invading Syria or Iran is 10000 times worse. It would be suicidal for the americans to do so.

Iran will blow up the middle east and not let the americans invade it. Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is a right wing fanatic, he is not afraid of doing something crazy like this.

Well, whatever the case or the cause. Iran with Nukes will make a very dangerous world, if not for Westerners in general, but for the middle east, especially Israel.

I hope Israel takes care of this business just like they did with Iraq earlier. The new president of Iran has verbally and publicly threatened them recently.

It could be a full blown confrontation if it happens though, and nobody really wants that either.

But what to do?... Trust Iran?

Me and my liberal ass do not trust Iran anymore...too much has happened since that nutcase Ahmadinejad has come into power.

No-one will invade Iran or Syria . It would be sucidal to send troops into one of those areas . Strategic bombing on the other hand is very foreseable and if we don't see a few bunker busters flying into nuclear research sites in the next 12 months i will be very suprised

I don't think the US would do that either because Iran will let loose the Shia in iraq who currently hold the presidency and complete dominance with 70% majority in parliament. Now the shia mehdi army are currently holding back due to iranian orders. Remember Iran is 95% shia. So expect the casualty rates of U.S troops to treble if US decide to bomb Iranian sites.

Re: is the gov't setting up for Iran attacks?

I think it will still happen eventually.

Remember how much people said about the military of Afghanistan, and then the Rep. guard of Iraq. Both were supposed to be very tough on the ground.

I think the bombing campaign would take care of so much that troops would only have to go in to overtake the military w/o putting families at more risk with bombing raids. So maybe troops would only be needed if overtaking Iran were the goal.

Remember one more thing. The Iranian people look crazy to you and me, but they aren't crazy. They are really nice people with a desire to live with the freedom you and I have today. Most Iranians are under the age of 30 and love the western way of life. They party in secret and have all the same desires that you and I possess.

I know this because I dated an Iranian immigrant to the US in 2000. She taught me alot about the people and how they think. Also Atlanta my town has an estimated 40,000 Iranians here. So with that many immigrants living in one city who fled the country, think how many others want change in Iran.

What I'm saying is ... I think the youth of Iran will rise up and overtake their own govt if we provide them the means to do so. They may have enough desire to die for this freedom, which many of them will ultimately do. Freedom has a cost, and it is usually runs red. Sad but true.
