It's probably evident that I take EXTREME pride in bringing you a diverse set of mixes each week. As cheesy as it sounds, I don't take this lightly and it means a lot when I hear that someone listened to a mix that they wouldn't have listened to normally and actually enjoyed it. With that being said:
I have never been more excited about a mix as I am about bringing you samacid's Mixtapes show as broadcast on Proton Radio in September. Many of you might be familiar with the fact that I talk about this show occassionally. It is far-and-away my favorite radio show of any kind, anywhere. It's not your typical EDM show, but it does incorporate a wide array of musical genres. Bands such as: Grandaddy, M83, Pink Floyd, Smashing Pumpkins, Beck, Radiohead, the list goes on, are mixed together flawlessly into a 2 hour long show each month that has featured guests such as: Cyann & Ben, Starkid, and Arfloteba. I can't thank samacid enough for allowing us to those this mix and for introducing many of you to something you might not think to listen to.
Second, we have a slamming progressive mix from none other than our very own Orlando who hosts the Dark Drums show on MercurySessions. This month Orlando did progressive proper by laying down the perfect peak time set that has techy elements while staying true to the sound that many of us fell in love with years ago. His show has become a staple on Sunday nights for many of us with his cohosts Baby Dave and CStylez and his guest list which includes: Faarsheed and Ivano Bellini. Thanks Orlando!
Orlando's guest this month on Dark Drums was the world-reknowned Palash. Having been around for a long time, he needs no introduction. But I will tell you this, if you're having a party anytime soon and you're not sure what to play, put on Palash's mix. It's the epitome of a heart-pounding party mix. Takes me back to being in a club and just feeling the bass pound through your chest, making it feel like it's going to explode. Thanks to Palash for allowing us to make this set available for download.
And to round things off, as promised we're featuring the 2nd part of Sharon Schael's mix. Her first hour received the praise of quite a few of you so for those of you that missed it, you better grab this one. Congratulations to Sharon for being featured on Proton as their featured artist last week, it was definitely much-deserved. Don't forget to tune into Sharon's show on MercurySessions called der Schall.

My love for house music began in 1987 in my hometown of Caracas (Venezuela). The Dj scene in Caracas grew exponentialy in the following years, and i grew with it. The sound of the times were Acid House, Hip House and house.
I began Djing in the summer of 2001. A year later i held a residency in one of the most prestigious afterhours in Las Vegas, Drais. During my Drais days, my style ranged from progressive, hard house, trance, and breaks. I also held residencies at GLO afterhours and 702 afterhours (venus). I've spun at a variety of local clubs and lounges here in vegas including alysium afterhours, BJ's lounge, AJ's pub, the emergency room, mist bar and lounge.
I recently lived in Florida and was heavily influenced by the Miami sound. My style now has evolved into a more tribal sound. I like to say my style nowadays is where progressive, tribal and tech meet.
My influences are: Chus and Ceballos, Dj vibe, Deep Dish, Oscar G, Saaed and Palash, Steve Lawler and Sander Klienenberg.

Palash

Reading Palash's travel itinerary is like flipping through DJ Magazine's Best of International Clubbing issue - his destinations are the world's most elite clubs. In fact, that very magazine accompanied him through Greece and dedicated a feature to his DJ Travels last summer. Dedicated followers of this DC-based jock have packed the houses at Pacha in Spain, Israel and Argentina, Bedrock and Turnmills in London, Homeland, Crobar in Chicago, Twilo, Sound Factory and the opening party for Avalon in New York City. He rocked the floors of Asia super-clubs Zouk in Singapore and Womb in Tokyo. Palash enjoyed a coveted headlining slot at the 2003 end of season, closing night party at Space in Ibiza. His set left such a lasting, positive impression that Palash will return to open Space's summer season in 2004.
Palash has held court in all of the great arenas where the drum leads the dance. His sensibility in the DJ booth and in the studio has evolved from the accumulated wisdom of watching and manipulating the effects of sound on crowds around the world. Able to nimbly switch between CD and vinyl formats while DJing, Palash's range of music isn't limited by a single 75-record capacity record crate; typically he has over 300 songs at his disposal. He wields an ever-evolving modern primitive blend of the dark drums of tribal, progressive, pitched-down techno punctuated by evocative vocals and melodic tracers. His mixing is as smooth and straightforward as the lines on a classic Jaguar.
7 Magazine has proclaimed Palash is "...the most exciting American export since Deep Dish." But before he played a single record outside of the US, Palash had already proven his ability to pack dancefloors. While he was getting his start in DC back in the early '90s, he revitalized one club night after another with booming tribal house and enthusiastic, thirsty crowds. An early success in a 2000-capacity room rivaled the club's other top night, one promoted by an equally dedicated entrepreneurial entertainer by the name of Sean "Puffy" Combs.
Naturally, Palash launched his own vinyl imprint, Addictive Records, to create a home for his productions and favorite tunes. With a penchant for percussive, groove-oriented tribal house, the Addictive releases struck a chord with the world"s best DJs.
As is usually the case, the UK labels acted on the buzz quickly. In 2002, Palash dropped a mix for Tide Recordings. Following in the well-heeled grooves of previous DJs in the series Steve Lawler, Lee Burridge and Danny Howells, Tide:Edit:07 showcased Palash's warm, tribal tech-house.
The creative flames were fueled with remix work for major and indie labels. Palash's work on the remix of Celeda's "The Underground" succeeded on an underground and above ground level: it went to #1 on the Billboard chart. John Digweed gave the nod and hired him for a remix of his own "Voices" for Bedrock. Then came mixes for Kylie's "In Your Eyes" and Steve Lawler's "Rise In," to name a few.
After receiving a nomination for the 2003 DanceStar Award for Best Breakthrough DJ, Palash mixed another CD, Addictive Beats, which found a home on Grammy Award winner Peter Rauhofer's Star 69 Records. All studio mixes and productions aside, it is live and in the club where Palash shines. Whether it's a 10-hour marathon set to the never-tiring sweaty crowds of Romania or an intimate New Year's Eve set at Arc in New York City, Palash has joined the ranks of the DJ elite through his consummate ability to evoke instinctual, euphoric responses from crowds around the world.

Sharon Schael

www.galaktikarecords.com
Passionate about music, in its very primal sense, as a little girl she would take apart sound systems, loud speakers and other devices that emitted sound. Growing up in Caracas, Venezuela she was surrounded by a family of artist that promoted creativity, from literature to music, and has followed that path throughout her education and in life, with a formal education in art history and moving to music as her art medium of choice, to create and share with the world.
With the arrival of rave culture to Venezuela in the 90s, Sharon becomes actively involved in the electronic dance music movement. At the time the prevalent sound captures and divides the masses into hard-techno and latin-house. But Sharon has never been one to follow the masses. Unsatisfied with the mainstream sound and always interested in listening to new sounds and experimental forms, Sharon's love for music has been a continual evolutionary process that pushes the boundaries, breaking the mold and reaching for atmospheres charged with deep emotion and energy, traversing the genres of house to techno, from dub to the clicks of minimal electronica that paint the canvas of today's electronic dance music.
3 years ago she decides to move to Guadalajara, M?xico, where she lives for a period of 6 months to later move to Canc?n and becomes part of the local scene, and at the national level coordinating the editorial of an electronic music magazine: [In The] Groove.
Now Sharon resides in Madrid, Spain, continuing her efforts for [In The] Groove, taking part into the collective Galaktika Records and working on music production project with her partner Andr?s Criado a.k.a Gauss Control for his label, Undress Records.
Also she hosts der Schall, a monthly radio show every 4th Wednesday, from 10:00 till 12:00 EST, offering insight into the most recent sound in the electronic music world on the internet radio station: Eccentric Beats
