But seriously, Windows is a much stabler OS these days since the release of Windows 2000. When Windows XP came out, the eyecandy was an eyesore as well (and I'm still running the classic interface on my 2.4ghz/1GB ram/ATI 9600 pro machine)), but they can be turned off. I assume Vista can be tweaked to perform comfortably.

And bitch as you may, most people will still be using Windows.

hey i use windows at home and office and dont have any problems ..later on i will get a mac for music production ..but for now im satisfied...

Seriously, I don't find the need for a new OS. I think windows xp works just fine I think its more of a marketing thing because it does help promote the need for new hardware. Micro$soft will also find a way to profit off us.

I'll considering investing into Vista when they have the new file system and database ready (which wont come into effect for the next year at least)

Sad thing is that we don't have a choice. Just like it happened with Windows 95, 98 and 98 SE, Microsoft will sooner or later stop to support it (for private customers who don't pay them for support) so everybody needs their new OS..I am pretty happy with XP as well..if you know the security Holes and the report functions and how to disable them, it?s a very stable OS and that?s what counts in the end.

osx86 will work on your existing machines, providing that they aren't ancient, so no need for new hardware....
