It's Sunday so that means 3 things: football, a crapload of exams this week, and new downloads. I was tipped off recently (thanks Jenks) to the name of the resident of the Harry Klein Club in Munich, Germany. Julietta is her name and her sound is no stranger to my ears. Harry Klein regularly plays host to such names as MANDY, Tobi Neumann, and Dominik Eulberg just to name a few. Those that love that delicious minimal sound will DEFINITELY want to pick up Julietta's mix. Called 'Minimal Deepness', it's as brilliant as sets get. Thanks Julietta and we look forward to hosting more mixes of yours! Mac Clark from The Low End Specialists sent over a liveset of his that was recorded when he played the Living Room in Honolulu, Hawaii a few weeks ago. It's 2 hours filled with banging progressive that's sure to make everyone happy. Many, many thanks to Mac and don't miss LES when they're in your area. It is that simple: "Music makes happy. " Julietta convinces with the easiness, she also arranges her drifty House sets, which play with influences of Breaks, Jazz, Minimal and Electro. In doing so, her sound doesn't remains trivial but finds its deepness in the pretence of herself as a DJ. Julietta grows up with electronic music. Connecting the 80's EBM with her child-hood, she discovers electronic club music as a teenager due to the MTV Party Zone. 1992 takes her into Munich's club Babalu for the first time. Fascinated by the sound setting of a DJ set her interest in mixing arises. By chance Julietta becomes host of Output 0.9, one of the very early Techno radio shows in Munich, and develops into an inherent part of the city's scene. 1997 gains residency at legendary Ultraschall. It was a lunch in 2000 with mutual friends that originally brought New York City's Mac Clark & Ali Geramian together. It was then that they discovered that they shared the same passion for a certain style of house music; not long after that introduction the seed for The Low End Specialists began to grow. From their humble beginnings as local New York City DJs and producers, Mac and Ali were schooled in the NYC club scene where they were influenced by legendary DJs Danny Tenaglia and Junior Vasquez.
Ali and Mac burst onto the scene in 2001 with their widely acclaimed remix of the seminal tribal house classic, “So Get Up” by Underground Sound of Lisbon. This remix which was released on Kaos Records found its way into the boxes of the industry’s best DJs, while being featured on DJ Vibe’s Global Grooves compliation and John Digweed’s Kiss 100 show. From there, The Low End Specialists signed their first single to Dirty Vegas’ Hydrogen Records which appeared on Sasha & Digweed’s WMC Essential Mix and the charts of numerous trendsetting DJs like Pete Tong & Deep Dish. This monstrous effort from them was a hit record at WMC 2002 and fully marked their arrival on the global dance scene.
In the summer of 2002, Mac and Ali accepted their first major NYC residency at the popular Centro-Fly nightclub, home to legendary DJs like Erick Morillo, Roger Sanchez, and The Chemical Brothers. This residency was the opportunity any DJ would relish: the chance to perform at one of North America’s most recognized nightclubs and to establish their own night in arguably the world’s most competitive market. It was through this weekly residency where Mac and Ali developed their trademark LES sound - a journey which touched upon sexy bassline grooves, tough tribal drums, lush melodies and pumping techno. What resulted was a legendary party that featured Ali & Mac’s patented brand of house music to enthusiastic crowds every Thursday, coupled with guest appearances by the world’s finest DJs such as John Digweed, Carl Cox, Seb Fontaine, DJ Vibe, Satoshi Tomiie and countless others. This residency garnered the boys worldwide acclaim and enormous support from industry heavyweights and clubbers, establishing The Low End Specialists as one of the hottest names in the global house scene. Due in large part to their night's success, Centro-Fly was nominated for club of the year awards by both Dance Star & BPM Magazine in 2003.
Now with an extensive discography and successful residency under their belts, Mac and Ali took their show on the road, making stops in a myriad of discotheques around the world such as: Stereo, Montreal; Pacha, Portugal & Budapest; Privilege, Ibiza; Club Q, Switzerland; Ruby Skye & 1015, San Francisco; Spundae, Los Angeles & Chicago; Avalon, Los Angeles; Yellow, Tokyo; Bedrock, UK and Godskitchen in Las Vegas & Toronto just to name a few. Let's also not forget possibly one of the most legendary nights at one of the most legendary club's in New York & the world Club Vinyl/Arc where they were regular guests and fill-in's of the legendary Danny Tenaglia.
Throughout their success in the DJ booth and in the studio, The Low End Specialists have shown no signs of letting up. After enjoying the commercial success of their Janet Jackson remix reaching number 1 on Billboard's Hot Dance/Club Play, they have continued their roll with new remixes of Juliet’s “Avalon” and her second single “Ride the Pain”, both due for release on Virgin Records. There is high anticipation for the summer release of their new single Power Station on one of the UK’s hottest labels at the moment, Toolroom Records. Power Station has received huge support from John Digweed & Hernan Cattaneo thus far and was used on Bedrock's OS3 compilation. Throughout their busy studio schedule, they have continued to maintain a rigorous tour diary, one that sees them continuing the grind throughout various North and South American cities & Europe. Now at the start of 2005, The Low End Specialists plan to continue their ascent towards the top of house music’s elite, producing quality music in the studio while entertaining clubbers and fans throughout the globe.

Each year, an album is released that demands a place in any music fan's CD collection. Washington, DC- based Grammy Award winning duo Deep Dish's latest effort George Is On, is one such record. For those tired of the same old formula in either rock, dance or beyond, this is the album that will break down doors and force you to look at music from a different perspective. Fresh off 2004's international hit lead single "Flashdance," and a follow-up single, "Say Hello," that's currently tipped for a repeat performance, the duo of Ali "Dubfire" Shirazinia and Sharam Tayebi have delivered an album that could prove to be the defining work of their careers.
George Is On exemplifies Deep Dish's uncanny ability to mix genres, as the Iranian-American duo brilliantly marries classic 70's/80's era rock & pop sounds with their signature deep and sexy dancefloor production and knack for creating subtly big songs. The record features a tight knit group of DC-bred guest vocalists, including long time Deep Dish collaborator Richard Morel on "No Stopping For Nicotine," "Sacramento," and "Everybody's Wearing My Head" and newly discovered female vocalist Anousheh on "Flashdance," "Say Hello," and "Awake Enough." Dubfire himself also debuts his vocal talents on the melancholic yet beautiful ballad "In Love With A Friend."
"Flashdance," was the first new release by the duo in six years as well as being the debut single from George Is On. With vocalist Anousheh's sultry, nonchalant vocals accompanied by a slick guitar riff inspired by a song from the 80's cult classic film "Flashdance," the song quickly grew into an international crossover phenomenon that would come to define the "guitar-house" sound. After conquering dancefloors worldwide on promo over the spring of 2004, the song debuted in the USA in late summer of 2004 and went on to become the No. 1 top-selling dance track on Apple's I-Tunes for the year. In September of 2004, the single debuted at the No. 3 spot on the U.K.?s pop charts. "Flashdance" went on to be released in over 30 territories, went Gold in Australia, and won the duo the award for "Best Underground Dance Track" at this year's International Dance Music Awards in Miami. In helping to continue the "Flashdance" phenomenon, Canadian producer Sultan went on to update the song with his bombastic mash-up remix that seamlessly crosses the Deep Dish original with Dire Straits' guitar rock classic "Money For Nothing." In what is one of the world?s first ever legally cleared "mash up" remixes, this instant classic has been included on the US version of the album as a special bonus track.
Deep Dish goes on to further bridge the gap between past and present via their re-work Fleetwood Mac's seminal "Dreams" (the third single ). And in a major coup for the album, the song features newly recorded vocals from Steve Nicks herself! The song was originally set to be an instrumental, however the duo soon noticed that the vocals for "Dreams" were in near perfect key with their instrumental track. The duo sent the song to Stevie Nicks' camp to see if there was any interest and, lo and behold, Dubfire and Sharam soon after found themselves at the legendary Village Studios in West LA (coincidentally, a studio where Fleetwood Mac had once recorded) laying down the new vocals with the legendary Fleetwood Mac vocalist.
It's been 14 years since the duo first met in DC, and it's been seven years since they released their critically acclaimed debut artist album Junk Science. During the time between Junk Science and George Is On, Deep Dish's Dubfire and Sharam have been extremely prolific. They've released a number of genre-defining mixed CDs including Yoshiesque (1999), Renaissance Ibiza (2000), Yoshiesque Two (2001), Deep Dish "Global Underground: Moscow (2001) and Global Underground: Toronto (2003). In addition, they have become two of the most in demand remixers in the business, and their credits include Madonna, Beth Orton, Depeche Mode, Dido, Janet Jackson, The Rolling Stones, 'N Sync, Justin Timberlake, Brother Brown, Morel, and Danny Teneglia. Their remixing prowess earned them a Grammy nomination in 2001 in the "Remixer Of The Year" category and in 2002 they were nominated and won a Grammy in the "Best Remixed Recording" category for their mix of Dido's hit single "Thank You." The group later went on to collaborate with P.Diddy on the track "Let?s Get Ill."
On top of all this, these two talented and driven artists tour throughout the year with 100-plus DJ gigs worldwide, leading Rolling Stone to declare, "there may be no other live DJ act better than Deep Dish."
