and if all else fails, there's always going into business for yourself. One can do pretty well in that realm.

so true lol. my bf owns his plumbing comp. and he has more work than he knows what to do with never mind the tons of plumbers in the area. there is always commercial grade at least, not sure about service work. but i guess that too.

Stick it out doing what you are doing. Network integration can be big money. Just stay ahead of your peers. Learn IPv6 now before others implement it. Become the expert and write your own ticket. Many companies, large and small will be looking for IPv6 experience and knowledge. VOIP, Video over IP, and network security are also big right now. Most companies are now looking to "deperimeterize" (as was explained at the conference I am attending this week). Basically moving security to the data object or individual device rather than having a firewall around the entire network.

I know computing can be discouraging at times but stick it out, your on the right track. But like I said, stay ahead of the curve and you make the big bucks in no time. Networks aren't going to get any simpler, only more complex (IPv6, MPLS etc.) so there more money to be made ahead. Also there very few young people going into computing anymore (due to the outsourcing) so supply will be short in the future.
