I´ve recently posted on a Portuguese board that James Holden is probably the DJ I most want to see live right now. Fortier and Zabiela come close, but I think Holden is one of the few guys who changed (by this I mean evolved) his style better, along with Sasha.
There´s quite some distance, musically, between something like his Fear of a Silver Planet CD and the latest mixes I´ve heard from him, but he´s better than ever.
Also, I must lots of Portuguese people saw him at Sonar Barcelona, he played alongside a shitload of the best DJ´s and artists in this field, and everybody came back saying that Holden blew everyone else away, some of them even came back saying that James´ set was the best they had ever heard.
To the guy who asked about his style, I repeat, don´t expect something like the Silver Planet CD, he´s playing a lot more tech-house, minimal-house stuff...just listen to his latest remixes.Comment

Holden is class. I remember seeing him during his residency at passion back in 2000, when he was playing and remixing all those prog trancers, was wicked. I saw his classics set which featured XPander and Heaven Scent amongst many others, a very special evening!
Holden has come a long way, his production skills are really good still and his mixing has developed loads. Class, have fun you guys!Comment

Holden was playing with CDJ's from what I could tell, I was with a lot of friends and wasnt investigating much in the way of equiptment, but he didnt appear to be watching his laptop at all and was definitely manipulating CDJ's or perhaps vinyl (he was cueing using headphones a lot, something in ableton that isn't needed all that much).
His style was a lovely mix of creepy minimal and tech house I would say
