I'm with Yao on this one. Everyone needs to stop quoting their religious text(s) and speak in our current language. Even a little Ebonics would be fine (im sure Bubblez The Ghetto Queen might even like that).

Cowardly, we spoke in depth on religion on the old forum without quoting the Bible (the time traveler thread). Who is to say the Bible is more correct than the Quran, the Bhagwat Gita, the Guru Granth or any other religious text? All religions also seem to have the same theme in common. Someone, somehow, in an isolated place communicates with God and puts it in a formal text. Apostles, Gurus or some other form of messenger comes down for whatever reason but we are told that after number whatever no more messengers will be sent. And these books all end the same way too. There will be massive world events that will hint at the end of time, etc.

If everyone just quotes their book, than nothings been done to show me how you see things or why you believe what you do.

I did consider myself an aethist for the longest time but sometime last year I saw this tv show that completely changed my mind. The guy presenting it showed me his perspective without quoting religious books. For me (and I believe others) thats what I'd like to see in this thread.

I have tons of stuff, papers I have accumulated from massive research over the last few years and I am typing up something in word to paste here about the mathematical probability of the earth accidentally coming to be with life sustaining capabilities. The number is quite amazing.

That is just the probability of the planet being able to support life. I have tons of other stuff about the probability of life being an accidnet as well.

It is just taking me some time to type up as I have been working on my tracks a bit latetly

I go in phases... I spend days or weeks on writing music then I go to researching things and reading books
I have quite the ADD moments around here

me. i was watching some political show about big time lobbying. and the uber religious christian one was scary. he spent like 30 minutes trying to refute evolution and was saying that things like carbon dating and fossils werent 100%...

When you think about the world, galaxy, the universe you get the point...have you ever thought that possibly there may be something out there that is bigger than you (a human)? Atheists like to be their own God so that they feel in charge of their lives. When you really think about it, its not out of the realm of possibility that something bigger than you like a "god" designed this whole thing and is out there.

Do we (humans) have the capacity to grasp it fully? Not at all, but that does not mean its impossible or cannot exist. Atheists want to think they are the boss of their lives.
