    FAO Frisky

Cant find the thread but I swear I thought you said you had an EOS D20 (??) I'm looking into getting one myself and wanted your views whether to jump onto the REBEL XT or the EOS D20.

PS: Not looking to become a profressional photorgapher, just play around with something more mainstream rather than point and shoots.

damn am I off or what.... thought I read somewhere where he pushed the 20D cause he was amazed how well it performed (naturally assumed he's speaking from a first hand / ownership point of view) as opposed to the G5 (which he also owned)

go with the Canon 5D. Just came out ... http://www.dpreview.com/articles/canoneos5d/

3.5 though. The 20D ain't bad, but also the new rebel XT is perfect from going from am to low pro.

5D is too much camera for me and a little out of my budget.... from what I understand, the 20D is the logical step about the Rebel XT and so I was comparing the both of them and trying to figure out, for basic hobby purposes, will the Rebel XT suffice or would the 20D be a better choice

            Re: FAO Frisky

Rebel XT is beautiful Camera. It surely is a leap from any am camera. The 20D is just a little more pro. It has some options the XT does not have. My buddy has the XT; he simply loves shooting with it, and has took some very beautiful pictures with it. It is just an amazing camera for the price. For what you get and what you pay; a A+ in my book.

The only reason I would not get one is because I am really getting into LFP (Large Format Prints); so I need high resolution. About 5.1 gets a letter page, anything over needs to be higher. So, that is my imo.

hmm so from a "serious" hobbyist's perspective, you think the REBEL XT is plenty of bang for the buck ? I read up on both on DPReview and they seemed rather neutral about the 20D and the Rebel XT in both writeups

I have a D70 at the moment. I'm going to buy a 20D very soon. The 20D is amazing in low light, high ISO conditions and has a bigger sensor than the D70, thus the image quality is better.

The 5D is way too expensive, I wouldnt recommend it yet. You have to grow your skills with the camera. I feel that Ive outgrown my D70 and might get a D5, but cant justify the price. I friend got one and the image quality is really second to none...

Go with the 20D, you wont regret it. The only reason I went with the D70 is that I got a killer deal on it at the time... But canon cant be beat in terms of quality.

ok so D20 it is..... yep I know lenses matter too and on DPReview, I read that the 17 - 85mm lens with Image Stabilization is the most handy lens across the board to own, pity the bastid costs $500+

bah, fuck those "stable" lenses... My 18-70 and 50mm f1.8 are my two favourite lenses... LOOVE the 50mm...

Start off with the kit lenses, and then go on to the more expensive lenses when you out grow the kits.

Interesting, well seeing your blog pictures I wont deny what you're saying, I know you're using a D70 but is the lens you're talking about fairly similar to the 18 - 55mm lens that's the standard lens with the D20
