I just bought this last night. Took it home and got schooled in almost every aspect of early house music. I've yet to see a film that was this insightful about early house music as this one. I had thought that Modulations was insightful. But this thing goes way way way deeper into this particular portion of dance music culture and how it got started.
David Mancuso is a damn Genius. It's the only way to describe him.
I now have a new love and affection for the old house music classics.
I'm on the lookout for the old Release Yourself track that this one gentleman speaks of in the film.
I highly reccomend this film to all into house music. Wicked cinematography going back to real footage of the Loft and the Paradise Garage. It might just turn you into one of us that goes searching for the old classics that you just don't hear in clubs anymore.
There is also a great portion on the second disc about the great Ron Hardy. This guy was a genius on the decks. The stories that get told about him are all awesome and make you wish you had been at the Music Box in Chicago in the early 80's.
That is all for now...now please go school yourself and buy this film.
