one thing to always keep in mind is that when they first tested it, they werent exactly sure if the explosion would stop. there was an hypothesis that when the heat from the bomb caused the hydrogen fusion in the air, well, some beleived that the hydrogen fusion process could continue throughout the entire atmosphere, killing the entire planet, which is why the US Army and other allied countries had groups of people in bunkers at the time of the test. they said it was a neccessary risk to ensure that the allies won the war. imagine that huh. freaky.
