Nazi war criminal tracked down in Ibiza

Notorious Nazi death camp torturer Aribert Heim was reportedly spotted in Ibiza recently, by a Jewish tourist who recognised the heavily scarred 91 year old in a shop on the island.
The notoriously sadistic doctor conducted horrific experiments in Buchenwald, Sachsenhausen and Mauthausen concentration camps during the Second World War then was briefly arrested then released by the Americans at the end of the war. Living quietly in Germany he reportedly fled to South America with the help of Odessa in 1962, as prosecutors began investigating his crimes more closely, then was tracked down to Spain in 2001, via money transfers.
Described by the Times as possessing a cruelty that was ‘imaginative, unrestrained and murderous” the Doctor’s experiments included carrying out amputations on prisoners without anaesthetic to see how much pain they could endure, while he injected others with petrol then using a stop watch to time their deaths. He also reputedly skinned at least one tattooed inmate to make gruesome seat coverings for one death camp commandant.
His appearance in Ibiza reflected the analysis of the Jerusalem Centre for Public Affairs, who in a fascinating paper published in 1988 revealed that significant numbers of Nazis hid in the Balearics at the end of the 2nd World War.
“With the cessation of hostilities in Europe in 1945, the next few years saw a somewhat paradoxical situation. The islands that for centuries had a reputation for providing the perfect hideout received German Nazis who pretended to be refugees,” the research institute declared, in a paper examining Ibiza’s history.
“Often they were unmasked only after they had firmly entrenched themselves in commercial enterprises, whereas the majority of islands were impoverished during this period,” they added. “Some Nazis still remain, living in isolated, heavily guarded enclaves. Quite a few met death in mysterious accidents.”
