    Re: Microsoft Live ?

in the life span of your new PC, you will NOT exploit the full capacity of 64 Bit apps, just a nice thing to flaunt... nothing more.... 64 bit processing really kicks in for servers who have more than 4 gig ECC ram and need all the processing power they can get their hands on to run mission critical programs. At home, you aint gonna see shit.... unless Micrsoft releases an OS SOOO CPU dependant, it actually does put some of that 64 bit juice to work

I won't be back until next Tuesday, so if Get Carter is the correct answer, I would appreciate of someone else posts a new cap for me

it puts a lil bit of it to use it's still two brains doing the thinking just the communication between them isn't right . here's the funny part though or not so funny in my case . they come with their own heatsink it's the A934 pin socket was a total git to get onto the processor . anyhows thought id'e check to see if there was something wrong with the fixing bracket ( the processor came off with the heatsink ) had to prise the pocessor of the heatsink then put it back on and forced the heatsink onto the board . the paste was thin and had started to dry . so i won't know until i build the rest of system back up whether i ain't fucked it all up and will have a shitload more hastle to do later. you pay £287 u won't a lil bit of metal to fucking fit . u shouldn't have to use two screwdrivers and 50 kilos of force .. the cunts

Intel's stock coolers are pretty decent.

Or you can go for some liquid cooling!

              Re: Microsoft Live ?

They say live.com is supposed to be some kind of "new strategy" that MS is finally "getting" in terms of delivery of software as a service.

Frankly, as a web application developer, the web has some really nice things in terms of development and deployment and all that. But, these freaking fast CPU's and GB of RAM we've got locally is such a waste if we don't run our OS and other apps locally.

Maybe Sun was right when it was going to be the "computer is the network" or whatever. In some ways, it is migrating that way, but it still has a long way to go. I think there is great value in embedding the connectivity into the OS and being able to access remote resources as if they were local. But the local box is still going to be king in terms of raw computation and graphical display.

I don't want my OS to ever be "rented" as a service over the network. I want it to be local doing the things I want it to right here, without any dependancy on anyone else or their service and restrictions.

Isn't that what we get with the dreadful music downloads from the music industry today? As they ever so slowly transition their "product" to a "service", it just continues to put the control back into their hands, and not the "owner" (or licensee) to listen to what, when, and wherever.

www.live.com doesn't introduce any spectacular migration of MS strategy to a "service" - it's a 1996 web portal that several many companies have already attempted, and no longer exist for. MS won't go that route - but why waste the resources on this.

                - cause they own the market in every whichever way,
                - are losing focus on the one thing that they dominate the market for and fail to improve on that one feature
                - continue to try and own shit they dont know how to do any better

Demon and Afro . Ure warranty is only valid for motherboard or processor if you use their stock parts . Once you have had them for a few months and you are sure there arn't any glitches . Then it's safe to go modding and overclocking . Till ure sure it all works do what it says on the manual

They have also teamed up with Sun (java) and will be improving the free office package Sun already had to make it a serious competitor with ms office....

fuck that. this morning I woke up at 8:00AM on the dot to my personal cell phone ringing. I answered it thinking it was important, and it was a rep from Google. I swear to God. He told me to quit searching for so much porn.

Seriously though... the dude calls me at 8AM, I answer the phone, and he starts trying to talk to me about some a project I've been doing at work and he wanted to discuss it with me further. Having had my wisdom teeth removed 2 days ago, being woken up, not being at work, and not remember ever giving them my personal cell number, I told the dude to email me and I'll contact him again next week when I'm in the office.

God bless Google for waking me up.

I do agree they could pull something off... but I just don't know if they're going to have enough support. The only way I can see it lifting off is if it runs Windows, MacOS, and Linux apps. Otherwise, i doubt there will be enough companies backing them to write code for the Google OS and no others
