    Groovefire @ Opium Garden - Miami 11/12

A few somewhat blurry years ago, three house music DJs met in Newport, Rhode Island, USA, a city without house music. Together, Todd Hanna, Phil Jakob and Mike Hoska quickly ignited the area?s clubbing scene with their unique blend of funky and funky-progressive house, electro and breaks coupled with their uncompromising creed to turn every room they played into an absolute party. It wasn?t long before this trio was doing shows all over the East Coast. And just like that, Groovefire had been born.

Today, Groovefire has residencies in Boston, New York City, Washington, DC and Providence, RI, not to mention an ongoing touring schedule that takes them throughout the US and Mexico. They were chosen as the 2005 Scion Emerging Artist of the Year for the Boston area. They are also members of the Balance Record Pool, an elite collective of North America's finest DJs whose roster includes Chris Fortier, D:Fuse, Danny Tenaglia, Jimmy Van M, Oscar G, and Sandra Collins, to name a few.

March 2005 saw Groovefire?s first release, ?Mama? on Release Records. Mama quickly became a regular play of Lee Burridge, Deep Dish and countless others, and reached Number 11 on the Release Records Hype Chart and Number 3 on the Balance Record Pool Chart. Then in May came ?Earthquake?, a massive funky progressive and electro floor-filler released on Sander Sander Kleinenberg?s pioneering progressive house label Little Mountain Recordings. The tune quickly blew up worldwide, finding the support of Pete Tong, Plump DJs, Azzido Da Bass, Rennie Pilgrem, Meat Katie, Mike Monday and many more including Sander himself.

With this much momentum, it?s no surprise Groovefire has received some respectable acclaim. The Boston Globe heralded them as ?Rising DJ Stars?, while Systems Recordings artist D:Fuse has said, ?Groovefire throws down some of the best tag team sets in the nation. Funky, fun, house, a taste of progressive, and always a kickin? bassline for the floor.?

With no interest in slowing down, Groovefire continues to maintain an ambitious touring schedule and a tireless production agenda. Plus they recently joined forces with a number of other internationally emerging dance music artists to form the collective PhuturePhunk. But as anyone who knows them will attest, Groovefire is hardly all business. Their focus remains, as it's always been, on the party.
