I'm actually interested to see what you end up with.

but i dont think anyone mentioned a cap yet, but if they did they're right.

In cars with smaller batteries and especially if you live in a state with extreme cold, caps are almost essential.

Caps are definitely good to have, but I'm not convinced that you'd really need a cap. It sounds like you're just trying to run a sub, and not the whole system... unless he planned on pumping out some high wattages through a high-channel-count amp to all speakers in his car, I'd say just not waste the money on an a cap.

I think a lot may depend on the make/model of the vehicle and also weather conditions. if your running your heat on full blast and your system's bumping and your cell phone is charging etc etc, it can strain a battery. especially on 4 cylinder cars like my civic (97). I used to have headlight dimming and a very slight drop in volume at times, but after the cap everything runs smooth now. I've also noticed improved SQ. But it's minimal and not the main focus of buying a cap. When i lived in detroit i did not want to have a dead car battery in the middle of january.

i did not step accross the line. you took it personally so don't blame me.

regardless of all this hooplah, i think the main point that everyone agrees on, is that you just have to listen to it in your car, period. it doesn't matter if the room was the size of blah blah blah, it's still not your car. like 3d said.. bad subs can sound decent on good amps and good subs can sound bad on bad amps. so, like many people have said time and time again... go and buy whatever you think you'll like the best, install it and listen to it IN YOUR CAR. if you don't like it, then return it and get somethign else, plain and simple. you have a lot to learn my son.

Thanks for all of your help!

Yes, even you Influx. I know where you were coming from man. Sorry I took you wrong initially.

Money is tight right now due to the holidays, but I still want some low end in my ride. I was stressing over this, cause it is a rather large purchase and I don't want to make a mistake by getting the wrong equipment. And yes, I was just looking for your opinions. I should've kept my opinions I formed after I had went out and tested some of the brands that you guys own to myself. I can see how that could be insulting to you and perceived as me being a snob. I honestly didn't think about offending anyone before I posted them and I apologize to all that I might have offended by doing so.

For the sake of your curiosity, I'll report back to you all once I've made a decision.

kenwood xxv-01d "25th anniversary edition" head unit w/ ipod interface mounted behind radio and ipod in storage slot below radio.

mtx thunder 801d amplifier (900 watts rms) and JL audio stealbox with 1 10" W3v2-D2 (300 watts rms.) fits perfectly below rear seat.

another view of the box and amp.

i will be adding a 1 farad capacitor that i used to have installed in my old car. i didn't think i would need it and there isn't really space for it, but i'll get it in there somehow.

That's a sweet ass setup Influx! Very clean looking install. I can see why you take great pride in it. Is the sub fully enclosed in the stealthbox with a port built in for emitting the sound? I had an Onkyo home theater system that had a box design like that. It was an 8" sub and the sound quality was awesome! I had to exchange it for a Panasonic system, because the receiver on the Onkyo died twice and they couldn't fix it the 2nd time around.

I've been thinking of the possibility in taking two 8" subs and putting them in a ported box. Both of the home theatre systems I've owned have had this. My computer speakers are Logitech. The sub in the PC setup is only a 6.5" in a sealed enclosure and has great quality sound. Maybe the reason I felt like the bass was too boomy on the subs I tried out, 10" and 12" was because I'm so used to listening to all of these tight sounding small subs.

                        Re: Car Subwoofer Suggestions?

i def think your better off with 1 10'' as opossed to 2 8'' subs. Theres a considerable difference (imo) between 8's, 10's, and a 12's. Also, i think a sealed box if your listening to EDM would be preferable. You get more accurate bass as opossed to boomier bass from a sealed enclosure. 12's and bigger have longer excursion and can sometimes "lag" on tracks with faster bpms. I think a 10'' is ideal for edm, it can reacher deeper frequencies then a 8'' (lots of edm features lots of subbass) and also provide for a substantial volume increase where as i think with 8's you could get similar sounds to having amplified component speakers.

by the way, what kind of car?

                          Re: Car Subwoofer Suggestions?

I drive a 96' Honda Accord EX coupe.

My brother's friend has 2 Infinity Perfect 10" subs without a box, but they come with a RF Punch 700s amp for sale, both for $275. The amp and subs seem to be pretty well matched up wattage wise, 350rms per channel on the amp and 350rms is also recommended for each sub. Any experience with either of these products? I've heard Infinity's 6.5 and 6x9s and really liked the sound quality, but not much experience with their subs.

the kappa perfects are pretty reputable, good sq has always coincided with infinity weather it be car or home audio. If your bros friend cant give you a working demo, when you look at the subs, see how flexible they are when you push the cone, if they are really flexible and loose, careful they wont last long.

I'm not a fan of RF, id suggest many other amp manufactures to power your subs before them. However, the amp could be useful to you if you powered door or component speakers. You wont be running the amp at full power, but 2/3 way speakers respond differently to amplification then just a straight woofer. I'd suggest finding a different brand of amp for the subs, something with a clean sound. I think the infinity amps even are pretty decent, along with alpine and im sure some other people will have some suggestions. i use PPI and i wouldnt trade my amp for anything. but i think PPI shut down
