I was getting dicked back when I did desktop support... now I'm a Project Lead (and I'm still getting dicked) but I'm making much better than the support.

~32-40k (no overtime) seems about normal to me

I currently do not hold any certs. I never renewed my certs from NT4, but I have been in the business since 96. I started off working with IBM and then moved on to NT only to land back doing Unix and then migrated to a Microsoft only site, which helped me out because I had those certs. Now I basically have the experience and my employer hasn't really pushed me to get the new certs. But I will be soon though...

Most of it depends primarily on your location. I've seen pay vary pretty drastically from one city to another. I have a recent salary survey somewhere. Hopefully I can get it online for you tomorrow. I think the range for desktop support is 40k being the low and 60 [something] being the high (67 ?). Then again when I was working desktop support I had a co-worker making 78 because he was on graveyard and the shift differential was so great..

Can't find the one which was formatted better but this one covers it all, by certification, age, experience, location etc.:

Sorry, I can't find that page... (Error 404). Here are a few tips to help you find what you're looking for:

According to that, I'm slightly underpaid. But considering the town I live in I actually do very well.
