Imus this morning on MSNBC (best morning show around) had joe leiberman on and leiberman showed some balls. he went against the democrats and showed how much BS there is in party politics, he actually brought a copy of his bill which he proposed in the mid 90's where america decided it was clearly anti saddam and baathist. he pointed out the second signature on the bill, Pres. Clintons, he went on to say how all the intelligence we used to reason for war was gathered by clinton's administration, and then proceeded to TRASH how we went about the war. the best thing though, he named names of a lot of politicians who have basically done a about face once the election campaigning begun. funny how he blew up everyone was like ""i believed in this, but now its time to have any moron from my party in office so imma just go against the other party""
the main thing i gathered about this is , we need more politicians who know they arent gonna run for president, who decide that we do not need politicians who do anything to back thier party, and begin using common sense. this is none the more obvious in isreali politics where sharon has begun pulling the center leaning ppl from both parties to a party that simply think ""what is the right thing to do"" . hopefully leiberman and McCain can get thier voices heard more and more with things like this.
lastly, they had this newsreporter lady on who talked about the historical times where a country has become democratic, from america taking 12 years from independence to democracy, to iraq taking the first baby steps. naming all our mistakes which are so evident, she also went on the explain the huge progress the red cross is making with the hospital systems, the schooling of the youth, the infrastructure, and the former wetlands of middle iraq that saddam had drained as punishment for the tribes not being behind him. was pretty enlightening as to how much isnt covered there. but then she did the right thing by telling how much military atrocities are occuring where the iraqi police forces are taking entire families of suspected militants into custody and holding them in makeshift prisons. how we leave troops out in the open, how we are completely failing to secure the borders from the foreigners who are entering and fighting on behalf of the now powerless baathist & islamist backers who are basically trying to kill anything pro democratic they can find of value.
