anyone see IMUS this morning with leiberman and the other lady

Imus this morning on MSNBC (best morning show around) had joe leiberman on and leiberman showed some balls. he went against the democrats and showed how much BS there is in party politics, he actually brought a copy of his bill which he proposed in the mid 90's where america decided it was clearly anti saddam and baathist. he pointed out the second signature on the bill, Pres. Clintons, he went on to say how all the intelligence we used to reason for war was gathered by clinton's administration, and then proceeded to TRASH how we went about the war. the best thing though, he named names of a lot of politicians who have basically done a about face once the election campaigning begun. funny how he blew up everyone was like ""i believed in this, but now its time to have any moron from my party in office so imma just go against the other party""

the main thing i gathered about this is , we need more politicians who know they arent gonna run for president, who decide that we do not need politicians who do anything to back thier party, and begin using common sense. this is none the more obvious in isreali politics where sharon has begun pulling the center leaning ppl from both parties to a party that simply think ""what is the right thing to do"" . hopefully leiberman and McCain can get thier voices heard more and more with things like this.

lastly, they had this newsreporter lady on who talked about the historical times where a country has become democratic, from america taking 12 years from independence to democracy, to iraq taking the first baby steps. naming all our mistakes which are so evident, she also went on the explain the huge progress the red cross is making with the hospital systems, the schooling of the youth, the infrastructure, and the former wetlands of middle iraq that saddam had drained as punishment for the tribes not being behind him. was pretty enlightening as to how much isnt covered there. but then she did the right thing by telling how much military atrocities are occuring where the iraqi police forces are taking entire families of suspected militants into custody and holding them in makeshift prisons. how we leave troops out in the open, how we are completely failing to secure the borders from the foreigners who are entering and fighting on behalf of the now powerless baathist & islamist backers who are basically trying to kill anything pro democratic they can find of value.

      OH YEAH,

to counter myself a touch, joe leiberman needs to SHUT THE FUCK UP about video game and TV violence, dont buy the game for your kids and use parental controls. its a zombie game, zombies in every movie ever made have eaten humans. shut up. its rated M for mature, if you buy it for a kid then you're an idiot.

whats next, r rated movies being banned from the theaters.

Re: anyone see IMUS this morning with leiberman and the other lady

I'm really starting to come around on Leiberman these last few weeks and months. I'm still a little turned off by his uberstrong religious leanings, but I have got to give him credit for speaking his mind and not the party line.

Yesterday the Wall Street Journal put up an op/ed piece he wrote about his recent trip to Iraq, if you'd like to read the whole thing check it out here. A few highlights:

Progress is visible and practical. In the Kurdish North, there is continuing security and growing prosperity. The primarily Shiite South remains largely free of terrorism, receives much more electric power and other public services than it did under Saddam, and is experiencing greater economic activity. The Sunni triangle, geographically defined by Baghdad to the east, Tikrit to the north and Ramadi to the west, is where most of the terrorist enemy attacks occur. And yet here, too, there is progress.
Does America have a good plan for doing this, a strategy for victory in Iraq? Yes we do. And it is important to make it clear to the American people that the plan has not remained stubbornly still but has changed over the years. Mistakes, some of them big, were made after Saddam was removed, and no one who supports the war should hesitate to admit that; but we have learned from those mistakes and, in characteristic American fashion, from what has worked and not worked on the ground. The administration's recent use of the banner "clear, hold and build" accurately describes the strategy as I saw it being implemented last week.

And one that I found most interesting:

Here is an ironic finding I brought back from Iraq. While U.S. public opinion polls show serious declines in support for the war and increasing pessimism about how it will end, polls conducted by Iraqis for Iraqi universities show increasing optimism. Two-thirds say they are better off than they were under Saddam, and a resounding 82% are confident their lives in Iraq will be better a year from now than they are today. What a colossal mistake it would be for America's bipartisan political leadership to choose this moment in history to lose its will and, in the famous phrase, to seize defeat from the jaws of the coming victory

Apparently those who are directly affected by the war are much more optimistic than some of the talking heads over here. And this was done not by Fox News or Republicans-FuckYeah.com, but on Iraqis by Iraqis.

Before all the Bush bashers start crying foul, keep in mind that this is Joe Leiberman were talking about here - not exactly the president of the GWB fan club. It's still a shitstorm over there and will be for a while - but things are (and have been) moving in the right direction despite what you've been hearing.

Re: anyone see IMUS this morning with leiberman and the other lady

McCain and Lieberman are right. A lot of the weak-kneed Senators in both parties who supported the resolution he criticized are now having second thoughts, especially in light of new polls that show that Americans aren't impressed, something that has to give even the most narrow-minded partisan worries:
Seventy percent of people surveyed said that criticism of the war by Democratic senators hurts troop morale -- with 44 percent saying morale is hurt "a lot," according to a poll taken by RT Strategies. Even self-identified Democrats agree: 55 percent believe criticism hurts morale, while 21 percent say it helps morale.
            ...
Just three of 10 adults accept that Democrats are leveling criticism because they believe this will help U.S. efforts in Iraq. A majority believes the motive is really to "gain a partisan political advantage."

But will any of this make any difference to those like Kennedy, Kerry, Durbin, Gore, or Pelosi? Probably not...

not until our generation pushes and votes for ppl who use common sense and dont vote ""the opposite of current"" out of hatred. which is what i hope for and try to explain to all the uber left bush bashers out there. there will be no progress until fox and cnn cover these things like cnn covers the democrats and fox covers the republicans. they need more exposure or nothing will be accomplished in the long run. the only good thing i can think like this is when the SEC blew up clintons financial reforms that allowed so many companies to fuck up the market and all the democrats shit thier pants after following party lines and voting for the corrupt, loop hole filled laws during the 90's. we got the SOX act out of it and the market is better than it has ever been, growing steadily under concrete backing from numerous financial institutions with evidence. pretty much all of the economists are surprised we recoverd the way we are and this time around it is real, not fake.

and if you take that moron john kerry for anything, then you need some education about bullshit. again this is the man who at 9 am said guns should only be used for police and military and should be outlawed to normal ppl, then 4 hours later was hunting ducks in a photo op. he still hasnt made up his mind on half of the things he campaigned for. and that is why i voted libertarian.

An actual, solid campaign finance reform policy might have the same effect as the Sox act.

Imagine that? No more big business lobbyists lining the candidate's pockets, elections based on ideals not profits, entire ballots filled with candidate's who run on their actual beliefs! What a world that would be...

i am, he has guest from both the right and left on all the time, never really has an agenda and his crew is pretty fucking funny. carlin sucks but bernie makes up for it. his political take most topics is fair and his guests are second to none. he can have john kerry on one day and dick cheney on the next, and he doesnt hold back with questions, he pressed kerry on kerry's BS and pressed cheney on the war and the intellignce failures. even more he lets them speak and quotes their critics he hosts analysts as well. his musical guests blow, but i can deal with that. and chuck mccord is a genius. much better than katie couric asking where fuckhead lauer is today or fox news and cnn trying to act balanced and tossing softball questions at designed guests. he asks things in the right way.

I remember watching the third party candidates presidential debate on C-span last year. What a fantastic debate. Intelligent candidates who knew their platforms and spoke without hidden agendas. The whole time I watched thinking to myself now this is something Fox and CNN would never cover but they should.
