There was one little place in south Austin called Turntable Records. It was located right next to a clothing store called Gomi. I haven't been there in over a year, so it might not still exist - although they always seemed to have an extremely dedicated clientele of househeads.

If I remember correctly, it was located near the corner of South 1st & Mary. Check a phone book or do a google search on it.

Also, Waterloo had a somewhat OK electronic selection in their vinyl racks from time to time. That's located at 6th & Lamar, although it is sort of a landmark so anybody who has been through Austin should already know where it is.

Another place that opened up right before I moved away was ATX Records. I never went there, but heard decent things about it. That one was located on Oltorf - south of downtown, but pretty close to the main highway. Not sure if they are still open, but do a google search and you can find an address and phone number.

why do i feel so honored to have a pataky reply in my thread?

thanks for all the info guys... if i end up moving there, ill be sure to check out some of the others.. esp. the san antonio ones.

glad that alien is still there... i gave them so much of my money while i lived there.

waterloo had some nice vinyl of the more eclectic variety (i think thats where i picked up my u-ziq album maybe)

Haha - somebody brings up the ONE other place in the states that I am familiar with for record shopping.

In Boulder, there is a place on Pearl St. called Barts - it's on the western end of the street, a few blocks before it becomes neighborhood. The vinyl section is upstairs - absolutely great selection. The times I've gone there, they seem to have a decent grasp on new releases. But what makes this place awesome is the used section - it is twice as big (if not more) than the new vinyl section. And you can find some complete gems in that section for amazingly cheap - $5-6 per record. Everytime I go in there, I end up finding several records that I had been searching for unsuccessfully for months.

There is another shop in Boulder whose name escapes me - it's up on "the hill" near campus. Pretty OK place as well, but doesn't hold a candle to Bart's.

there were at one time 4 record stores on the hill.

there was a store .. not sure where to describe it.. but its closed too so it doesnt matter..

and there is a small shop called harmonic motion up there. they dont really have that big a selection, but its there.. so yea.

in boulder, bart's is really the only place worth going to. and about the used section? yea it rocks... ive found a ton of gems.. actually, someone in the area is on the bedrock advance list... so ocassionaly, you can find bedrock promos for cheap BEFORE they are released. good stuff.

Might have been albums on the hill - it was 2 or 3 years since I went there. It had a massive basement section with mostly non-electronic stuff.

I totally forgot about that place. I usually stop by there when I visit the fam in Boulder (the owner is a friend of mine and sometimes gives me free promos that he receives ). Their vinyl selection never really seems to change. It's like nobody really buys anything, and they never really order anything new. I wonder how they stay in business sometimes.

Great place if you are into psytrance, though - they have boxes and boxes of discounted CDs that would normally run $15-20 marked down to half of that.
