a way to boost volume on a windows PC

    Hey all,

don't know if this is the right place for asking this, but I have a little problem here...

I plugged a good set of headphones (old though) in to my soundcard. Sound quality is great and volume is ok, but for some songs I really want to get into, the volume just isn't suffucient.

I'm running win2k and all my volume settings are set to max. When I use my sound system it's all good, I just want to pump up my volume for these headphones...

any idea on how to do this?

    thanks in advance!

I was actually wondering that too. As the volume on my headphones is rather soft as well.

Check all sound programmes that you run and make sure the sound isn't down on them .This includes windows messenger or yahoo btw . Weird the way one setting on a programme you don't even use can screw up volume but it does . Have them all set in the middle then adjust all volumes with your keyboard in the future and not the slider on a programme .

I know this has caused probs for me in the past

Alternatively, if you use your Hi-Fi System, just plug the headphones into your amp..you can control the Volume better and should get sufficient Volume this way.

A crude way is to turn on the EQ and boost all the settings

software-wise, all my settings are set to the maximum setting possible...
my soundsystem is a pc-system that doesn't have a headphone connection...

anything else that might work? Maybe some amp-software ?

No headphone out on any of your speakers? A reasonable 5 speaker setup these days can be had for as little as £50. And a cheap as hell but good for sticking a heaphone jack into 2 speaker setup you can find for under £10

Did you check the volume level for Wav output under Sound and Audio Devices in Control Panel? When my volume is inexplicably down, I find that's usually the culprit because most of the volume settings on programs or in Windows set the master volume (but ocassionaly some programs alter the Wav volume and you're none the wiser).

I got pics and video. But I will upload them in the morning. I need to smoke this nice phat joint and just close my eyes and replay the amazingness in my head.

yes , ALL my software settings are set to maximum...
and I don't feel like buying a new set of speakers just for the headphone output... I'm just looking for another way to fix this... Sound is pretty good though, I just need that 10% extra in my headphones but it seems like this can't be done using software....
